No reason to win games

Hello there, I would love to hear your opinionis on this to see if you are experiencing a similar situation.

During most of the games players just sit iddle trying to get a kill with a specific weapon no one is trying to push for the objective as I see it it would make sense as you get nothing worth for wining the game( no progression no anything) , its rare to see players join in co-op vehicles like a warthog, but solo vehicles like wasp, banshee etc are highly contested (which is normal) but on this game it feels more so, you get nothing worth the effort for driving vehicles that are no single player use, most of the games I had played (10 hrs in game) most of the times no one is doing the objective, they all seem focus on getting kills or running to get the weapons. I hope the game is change in a way were you are rewarded for wining or for beign among the top 3 on a game or something like that.
Hope to see that some of you guys are getting a different experience.

Pretty much the same. You aren’t rewarded for playing well, but you are rewarded for completing objectives. Therefore everyone will prioritise doing them instead of trying to win, even to the point of sabotaging the game so it takes longer and they can finish their objectives. It’s a very bad system and I’m not sure how 343 didn’t realise as much during testing.

It’s almost like 343/Microsoft can’t tell the difference between they’re own game and CoD

You guys sure are good at keeping track at what everyone else is doing in the game.

How do you know players aren’t just exploring the map and sandbox? It’s the second day. Most games have no “incentive” to win. How about just winning, competition. It’s more important to have fun above all else. People find that in different ways.

I don’t think exploring the map in a LIVE GAME is a good idea. Custom games are a thing

Exploring what the map and Sandbox has to offer. I don’t have to use a weapon in Training Mode to learn what it does. I can pick it up and shoot it at someone in Matchmaking.

I’m still finding new things every time I play a map whether that be a jump or a placement for equipment or a weapon.

true, but the wisest way to learn what a weapon does it to use it against the bots or in training to get a full understanding of said weapon… i mean, i get the vehicles, but not the weapons
but eh, to each there own i suppose

Yeah I feel the same way. While I have my own thoughts on the battle pass system, there needs to be a reward to playing well. Completing challenges doesn’t mean you played well. If I have a great game, play object, and get a good score I might get zero progression towards unlocking an armor set. Your armor used to be a way of showing off your skill in lobbies, but now it feels a little meaningless. Allow at least of fraction of map xp to count towards the battle pass and maybe add an armor set or two in that don’t require the battle pass. Incentivize getting better at the game. Please.

The challenges are WRONG, they do not have a logical approach, or they are very easy, or they are Mint Blitz level. I support that the challenges should be easy or have a middle point, but perhaps they should be rethought and above all, and most importantly, be able to be done in the VS bots mode to avoid that it harms the social games or the ranked games.

If you allow all, ALL CHALLENGES, to be performed against the bots it helps to relieve the pressure of the players, and you allow that who wants to focus only on challenges not to harm the game of other players.

Most games, especially FPS, actually do have an incentive to win, especially modern ones. It isn’t just a lack of incentive to win though, but an incentive to complete objectives instead of winning which is the issue.

Winning for competition is fine but players are less likely to do that if they can be rewarded (especially in a very slow progression system) for doing something else, even if it is detrimental to them winning the game.

Do they? I genuinely haven’t noticed.

If you mean I will get 10,000exp for winning instead of 8,950exp for losing then yes modern games reward winning, in a negligible way.

I can’t think of a single game in the last ten years that rewards you for winning most of your games. Performance is also pretty irrelevant due to sbmm.

Even something as simple as getting more xp for winning a game is a reward and incentives players to do well. We have a points system in the game already but it effectively means nothing. A decent idea would be to tie that system to xp at a high division rate. 100pts equals 1xp or something like that. That way players are consistantly rewarded for playing well and completing in game objectives rather than arbitary challenges.

As for games which reward you for playing well in the last ten years, well Fortnite does it, most call of duty games have done it, battlefield does it, it was particularly good in Battlefield 1. Halo Reach is a great example and ties directly to the xp question, though it falls slightly out of the ten year range. Reach also gave you challenge xp in addition to your xp for playing well. MCC does the same.

I spent most of a BTB CTF game camped at the back of the base near the edge of the map hoping an enemy would come close so I could knock them off the map with the repulsor equipment for a weekly challenge. It was boring and I didn’t get it anyway!

Reach rewarded people who sat reloading checkpoints with a target locater in hand…

How did Battlefield 1 do it?

The kind of system we are discussing gives me no incentive to perform well in a game. I perform well because I want to. I don’t need a k/d stat, or a reward, I just want to have fun. That usually means winning, but not always. Some games I will throw if my teammates are not very pleasant. I’ll relax if I want to. Nothing will change that.

Quickplay better for that, you can do it super easy and organically on Recharge and Live Fire.

I actually did it on the Big Team map with the big hole/crater thing in the middle of it.

Will give that a try, thanks!

I agree, Should have progression on medals earned and matches won.
Sucks when you’re trying to play and you got randoms doing whatever they feel they need to do for challenges…

You’re too right and it’s sad, some teammates literally throw the match and in ranked they’re willing to kill you off if they want that “battle rifle kill”

The Reach example you gave was a very inefficient way to earn xp even back then, the fastest way was to perform well in multiplayer games.

Battlefield 1 rewarded you via medals for playing well and completing objectives which gave you rewards when you had collected a certain amount.

MCC is the best and most relevent example of how good gameplay can be rewarded with a challenge system still in place and without pressuring a player to perform well every game.

It might not be for you, but any increased reward is incentive to do better, that’s just how the human brain works. What sort of system would incentivise you to play better?

I’m also not suggesting you need to win every game, just that -in general- people will want to perform at a higher level and have an incentive to do so, if they are rewarded for it, where as people who are not rewarded for doing well and are instead rewarded for completing arbitary objectives, are more likely to do them, than actually play the game as it was intended and this is bad for the whole player base as those who wish to win, cannot do so with their team mates looking to complete objectives but not win the game.

I agree, unfortunately they’ve put armour behind the battle pass so the only way to get anything good is pay Money or do very specific challenges. I think challenges should be something you do if you want extra xp not the only xp you can obtain. That made challenges fun in reach because you knew you were doing that little bit more towards getting the helmet or armour effect you wanted.
