Sup guys, Pandahunter here. I know that this is kinda old news and all but it really eats me up. WHY 343! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BACKDOWN ON A RANKING SYSTEM!!!
I loved playing Halo 3 and 2 because it was not only fun, but it gave me something to work for and rewarded me for my effort. Reach lost its luster for me after a Month and I played Halo 3 from day 1 to the day Reach killed my community.
Frank O’Connor says it is because he was tired of people cheating to get a high rank. Well I hate to break it to him, but day one of Reach there were people cheating. Cheaters are not going anywhere. Is it really that hard to make a working ranking system? Cant they just make a Seperate playlist and let the players who dont care play the nonranked one?

No, the OP is talking about actual rank systems. Like in Halo 3, 1-50 ranked playlists, not like Reach with the progression/credit system where it isn’t related to player skill but playing time.
They should have a system that tracks how many rounds you fired and how many atually landed on the target and how many of those shots where headshots, that goes to a acuracy rating, which would just be one mechcanic to a whole network based on your skill level.Also still track K/D and W/L ratios, and track the average amount of players you kill be for you die in each match.While also tracking how much you give to the objective like BPR but more refined version, they should also trackwhat weapons you kill with and what matter you do it with like using 2 rockets to kill a player wouldn’t be as valuable as killing with just 1, that would define your skill level, so rank would mean somthing.And they should make it where if you get worse later on that you begin to derank, but lose no guns or armor at all.
I know this is asking for too much but just saying.

Your thread really convinced me, so much so ive told myself that the rank symbols will be the trueskill system! Hopefully 343 will give us more info near launch! Would make alot of people happy.
needs 1-50 to make the game replayable 343 fail to understand the importance of the 1-50 in halo 3 it was the only thing that kept me playing halo 3 it was addictive to improve my rank
why i NEVER play reach cos there was no point other than to play its not good enough

Halo 3’s system was just as broken as Reach’s. It was fun and incredible to play legitimately, but the fact that it was based purely on w/l really strained to me what it really means to have true-skill ranking.
Not to mention the infestation of boosters and sold accounts.

Well yeah HALO 3 ranking system was bad but atleast it gave you a reason to be keep playing and feel like you where going somewhere, HALO:REACH was just terrible it was based on nothing but exsisting.But I have no wories about HALO 4 cuz frankie really seems like he thinks they found the right blend of traits to track to find the truest degree of skill or the for lack of, not to mention unlocks which will keep me play for a while just to get my next toy, why do you think people love that bullsh*t game CALL OF DUTY cuz all the unlocks keep people iterested.
Theres a few mods still sneaking there ways in, but most recent patches and improvements are taking away the usefulness of say a modded controller, Halo 4 should be virtually clean we can hope atleast.
I do believe there will be a Ranking System that tracks your stats and puts you with players of similar skill, but I believe it was confirmed to be invisible to other players but visible to you on your Service Record.
The videos posted, links, support this as well, I never really played Halo 3 for the Ranking up but because it was much funner, fast paced, and fluid than Reach. Halo 2 most likely is still the best in terms of Multiplayer but it also had plenty of flaws especially with the Ranking system.

I agree bud, I hate how Halo Reach’s Ranking, Progression systems are all based on time played, some people cant play quite as often as others and yet people have the nerve to look down on lower ranked players, players that still kick their -Yoink- regardless. Hopefully Frankie, 343i have found that right balance and can get things to going just right for Multiplayer.
I myself keep eyeing Spartan Ops more than even War Games, it just looks so epic.
