No QTEs, bring back Theater in campaign and..

Bring back Boss Battles. All the way through Halo 4 there was a build up to this final confrontation with Didact and it turned in to an anticlimactic boring “Press X to win”. Boss Battles are what made Halo 2 standout from the rest of the series.

A boss battle with the Didact would have consisted of Chief dying.

He could charge at the Didact, and get blasted off the bridge by constraint fields.
He could shoot anything he had, and would run out of ammo before the Didact’s armor succumbed to it.

There was no way the Chief could win.
Besides, the Didact wasn’t supposed to die.

A boss battle doesn’t imply a boss dying. You could have had Knights and those robot dog things I forgot the name of to fight for ammo. The Didact was arrogant and had plenty of chances to kill John and blew it. It could have been fun.

It would have been fun getting annihilated?

There was no way Chief could win. Especially not with the Didact’s constraint fields.

He can slap you off of the bridge (or wherever the fight would be) from afar. He can grab and throw you without touching you. He can choke you. He can disintegrate cover you’re using. He can teleport.
Not to mention, his armor. Nothing Chief has would be able to penetrate it, except for probably a lot of incineration cannon shots.

The Didact was indeed arrogant, but he didn’t see Chief as a notable threat. Of course, his mind was gradually changed ocer the course of the game, to the point where the Didact finally decided to confront Chief in person.

The boss battles in Halo 2 were terrible and boring. Bum-rush Regret, and punch him in the neck until he dies? How is that fun or engaging? And don’t get me started on Tartarus. Halo 3 had some good sub-boss battles (the Chieftain at the end of “The Ark”, the Scarab battles), but the final battle with 343 GS was boring and unengaging.

If 343 can find a way to do a good boss-battle, then bring it on. Until then, leave it out. Honestly, I don’t get why people were disappointed with the lack of a boss-battle, considering Halo’s shady history with them.

Moving over to QTE, I don’t see a reason to get rid of them entirely. They allow players to engage in events that otherwise might be restricted to a cutscene. Granted, these can become overused and boring very quickly. I would say that Halo 4 had so decent QTEs, such as climbing up the elevator shaft and killing that first Sangheili. And to Halo 4’s credit, they never overused QTEs.

Halo has never had boss battles. Unique enemy types or events don’t count as boss battles.

The Didact fight was doomed when they decided to have the final confrontation take place on a light bridge. A change of environment could have changed the outcome.

The Regret and Tartarus fights were pretty challenging to do quickly, but they aren’t very fun or innovative. The Heretic fight was just dumb.

The only boss battle that felt a little like a boss battle was the heretic leader thanks to his holograms.
I have never seen the Didact as a boss battle and was not even expecting to face him at all. If it would have been a boss battle, Chief would have died.

If 343 can come up with a good boss battle then why not.
But those minor battles like Brute chieftain and scarabs work fine for me.
