No player collision?

A bit worried now that the lack of player collision wasn’t commented on in the newest feedback post… This is a halo staple, 100%. It was even super jarring during the preview to me, personally.

Is this really how it will be at launch? Running through everyone like they’re ghost? lol

Bro. Even the physics are pretty woeful.

Examples:

Poor ragdoll.

Half a tonne Spartans that go flying across the room as if they were light as a feather.

Fruit physics from 2002.

My guess is the old gen console hardware limiting what they can do with the game and still maintain decent performance. A proper new gen game for only new gen Xbox and PC would not have these issues.

Since I’ve been dealing with BTB griefers ruining a non- trivial amount of matchmaking games for so many years now, I’m ok with trying out the no collision/no friendly fire approach from the Infinite tech preview. At least for a little bit to see how it goes.

There have been various settings combinations over the years, and the problem never really got better, so I’m willing to give this approach a try even if it means we might miss out on some potential crazy-antics YouTube videos and what not.

Have you never played halo before? This has been a thing since H2

And you would think by 2021 it could be drastically improved by now.

Yea, it will be sad if we can’t stack up on each others heads to reach places or just be goofy. And also the lack of accidental friendly fire removes a bit of care from peoples gameplay. No reason to not just lob every grenade you have into every fight you come across regardless of whether or not your have allies in the way.

Gotta say i love the physics of halo. Still to this day you can play halo 2, 3 and reach and have so much fun from the physics. That brilliant clip of how one player was able to get the Recon amour set from bungie was classic physics. Vallhalla, a warthog is driving and gunning and manages to shoot a traffic cone and it topples into the grav lift, flys across the map and kills him.

Even though it was a nice break away from teamkilling and bumping into people, I still want collision on as well as friendly fire. If friendly fire is turned off everyone just spams grenades with no consequence of team damge. This is bad for gameplay.

The over the top physics is something no shooter really does. Its ok if one does not like that but at this point that kind of physics is pretty built into halos identity.

OR, the more likely culprit is that the Slipspace engine itself doesn’t really have good physics.

Bungie outsourced and used the Havok engine for physics in Halo 2 and beyond because Halo CE didn’t really have one, and building a good physics engine is extremely difficult to do. I wouldn’t put it past 343 to be shipping with a physics engine that is “good enough”.

The ragdoll was somehow good and bad. When kill in air i was hoping for an animation. But ragdoll is ragdoll.

Seeing a spartan flying across is actully fun.

Fruit physics, yes is looks bad. I hope they do something about it

I’m kind of happy it’s gone in matchmaking nothing was more annoying than going jumping for a power weapon and being knocked to the side by your teammate ruining your jump right before you could get it

The amount of times I get bumped or pushed in MCC makes me glad that there isn’t collision. That being said, I do think it should be on in certain gametypes so it can’t be exploited like in Infection for example.

I’m pretty sure player collision is still going to be a thing.

Maybe… player collision will be added after launch? xD

Jokes aside, yeah I think it should still be a thing, it encourages some creative ways to interact with team-mates. Although it could be cool to be able to switch it off in custom games.

I assumed it was a bug, but having 20 years of Halo multiplayer to go on, I freaking LOVED not having people get in my way :joy:

It was like a holiday. It made me so happy :joy:

Hope its gonna be there in the next flight

honestly i could see it going both ways, i can see it just being a thing they disable for testing since it might have been scuffed in that build. and i can see it being something that 343I changed without even caring what the community thought.

I would rather have player collision on rather than everyone fazing through each other, what about you? I know it can be annoying but its there for a reason. Just one of many good points id like to make is, I’ve saved so many of my teammates that were AFK and i pushed them into cover. If you cant do this theyll be an easy target for the enemy team.

I think it should be on because it would just feel wrong otherwise, a good example is CS:GO because you have collision in ranked but for the longest time you didnt in casual, they finally added stacking (you can still walk through each other) so you are able to do all kinds of fun moves.

also imagine infection with possible twenty some people hiding inside each other, if its a good spot well then zombies are SoL, i dont remember testing if you can fire through each other but if you can then that just breaks so many modes on its own, if you cant then whats to stop trolls from standing inside you so you deal no damage (or if you have a AoE weapon like the spanker killing yourself).

Either way i dont see it being actually better then just turning on player collision.

Grenade spam is one thing I actually am worried about because it was already becoming prevalent in the last few games (halo 5 spawned grenades in like crazy and I believe you could carry like 4 of each kind?). Infinite will at the least let us carry 6+ at a time. No FF definitely means even more grenade spam with no repercussions to accidental (or intentional) team kills. I can already imagine some choke points getting grenaded to hell.

objectives will be interesting to contest now as well
