343 just confirmed on the Rooster Teeth panel that Elites are not playable in matchmaking. Bring on the hate.

Let me be clear, I could care less about playing as an Elite. But I think the most disappointing aspect of this news is that we won’t be getting any new game modes that aren’t slight tweaks or variants on what we’ve already have for over a decade.
Imagine a mode where you play as an Elite hunting party teamed up with a Spartan Squad to eliminate flood or promethean enemies. Imagine multi-team modes that allow for human, brute, elite, flood and promethean battles. Imagine Warzone except where opposing teams play as difference races and the AI represent the race you choose (Spartans get marine and other spartan friendlies, Covenant get grunts and hunters, Promethians get etc.). Imagine a Battlefront-type mode with classes (grunts, hunters, elites, marines, spartans, etc.). Imagine a mode where you team up as Covenant and Human forces to stop hordes of Flood or Prometheans (or both?). The possibilities are literally endless with what you could experiment with.
Unfortunately, we’ll never know because “it’s not canon” is the ruling philosophy now apparently. What a damn shame.
Well, I’m glad myself that there hitboxes won’t be messed up and they are hunched over etc, but I feel bad for people that actually do want to play as them. as in, I feel bad it wasn’t included in the game for them.

Why does multiplayer have to have canon? I don’t particularly care for Elites in MM, but I think that insisting that multiplayer meets canon requirements actually prevents innovation for “fun-sake” in the game.
Well to be fair, they asked the 343 guys who were offstage. We don’t know if they actually said no or if they were saying “Can’t answer that” and the Rooster Teeth guys misunderstood. Pretty sure they won’t be but it’s still not 100% confirmed.
No need to hate… Since I’ve seen the Arbiter with his own “fireteam” hanging with Locke, I want next E3 to reveal the Elite Expansion Pack by having a completely black stage suddenly light up with replica E.Swords amongst dry ice, held by animitronic versions of that fireteam.
Complete with Arbiter campaign and Elite vs Spartan Warzone. (at least Elite vs Elite Warzone)

That would be false. Spartans train with Elites. The Arbiter and his squad at one point enter a battle with fireteam Osiris and at no point has it ever been stated that is why.
Usually 343i admits to being “lazy” in concentrating on balancing a larger sandbox with symmetrical starting abilities instead of trying to add a third layer of perverted hitboxes or asymmetrical abilities.
Couldn’t they have announced this earlier?? They knew full well this was something people really wanted, so it was stupid to leave people hoping for so long.
Personally, I’m not all that bothered about playing as Elites, but a lot of people are…

I think they literally said “ok, he just confirmed, they will not be playable”. But yes, they were asking the 343 guys off camera.
At no point did I care either way. I really don’t get why this was a serious point of contention. Fortunately, it’s been confirmed so people will stop asking about it, right. Right?

I know but he was doing the neck-cutting motion which I assume the 343 guys were doing. Either that meant no or we can’t say. Again, it’s pretty much confirmed they won’t be in the game but I’m just playing devil’s advocate.

I’m just glad that it’s not available due to the massive amount of entitled children that scream they want it, and didn’t get it. It wasn’t ever necessary to play them, it was a gimmick in the past games, that’s it. I wonder how many people are going to say “I won’t buy it now”, bet I still see you day 1.

I can understand it, if stormtroopers weren’t available in the new Battlefront I wouldn’t buy it.
