No Plasma Pistol EMP?

Was this an intentional change or just a bug?

It feels like the shock rifle EMP is crazy OP only taking two shots to shut down a vehicle, while the plasma pistol lacking an EMP makes it arguably the weakest gun in the sandbox except for cheap-shotting people around blind corners or the odd noob combo when someone still falls for it.

I understand that the charge shot moves faster now so a one hit EMP might make it too OP, but I’d rather the gun work worse as a weapon if it had more utility. I can also understand this might have been done to make EMPs less prevalent in the sandbox, as to not entirely shut down vehicle play. Still though, this feels to me like trading a rewarding skillshot mechanic, for the Infinite equivalent of taking out a 3 man falcon with a DMR.

Happy to hear other peoples opinions on this. Am I making a big deal over nothing or can you see where I’m coming from?

It might just be a nostalgia thing for me, but I definitely miss it. I too would guess it has something to do with vehicle play, but they could balance that out by making the shock weapons and the plasma pistol less common of a pickup. I really like the sound design on this new plasma pistol, so I personally hope that they give it its full utility back for larger vehicle maps.

This changement is weird after all these years and I’m really tired that every thing change from a game to an other, but I’m agree with this change. The most understandable things to me always was the power of the plasma pistol, used by every grunt, the weaker soldiers covenants !

Bro I thought people were hacking in a tech demo when they didn’t get EMPed. I’ve been used to it simce Halo 2, so it being unpractical is a kick in the nuts.

If they want to make it fit, maybe have the emp effect last for a shorter time for the plasma pistol compared to the other weapons OR increase the amount of energy used while holding and releasing a charge.

I couldn’t disagree more. The plasma pistol effectively turns into a power weapon against vehicles. Tanks are completely irrelevant against the pistol.

Last statement couldn’t be further from the truth. You still have to get pretty close to land the shot, which isn’t easy to do, because the target is a bloody tank. Though that really goes for all vehicles. You can’t have the only counter to vehicles be other vehicles or heavy power weapons.

Literally just make the EMP time inversely proportional to the size of the vehicle. Makes some sort of hand waivey kind of sense and works from a gameplay perspective, since smaller vehicles move faster. I think it should have the EMP, but getting F’d by a pistol in a tank feels wrong in every Halo game.

It’s because we have so many other things which do that I think. The dynamo grenades and shock rifle both do Emp. We have the skewer and rocket launcher. Don’t get me wrong I agree I wish we had the plasma pistol doing it. But I can see why we don’t now.

Plasma Pistol EMP is obligatory

But you can balance maps to not have too many EMP weapons. Doesn’t really matter if one more has an EMP.

It’s useless otherwise, I’m baffled about half the changes to the sandbox

But it’s not useless, Its still one shotting shield when charged which is useful

That’s a great suggestion honestly, but the plasma pistol in the flight as it is now doesn’t EMP any vehicle at all.

I think you mean halo 3 as thats when emp was introduced

Yeah if the plasma pistol isn’t gonna emp they need to buff the everloving crap out of it.
As of right now it’s a terrible weapon.

Really? I could have sworn it was a think in Halo 2.

The only thing in my eyes it’s good for right now is removing someone’s overshield. And even then it’s not that great since if you’re good enough it’s easy to do without a Plasma Pistol.
