Josh Holmes said in the final game there will only be local splitscreen with only 2 people. Wow so I won’t be able to play with my friends in this game when the come over. You are literally forcing me to go back to Halo 3 where splitscreen is still stable. That is a huge disappointment and hopefully you will change your minds.
He rather means “local party”: 2 people playing with 1 console, online or offline.
Let our voices be heard, we want 4 player split screen online and local.
I responded to Josh’s tweet asking him if it’s too late in development to add 4-player splitscreen, but whether or not he answers my question remains to be seen.

“Asking if it’s not too late” will do no good (of course it’s not too late - it was possible to add split screen to UT3 few months after release, so increasing from planned 2 players to 4 players, year before release is even easier). We must demand it. It’s our right to be able to play these games with our families, since we bought Xbox One that supports 4 pads.
Yes let the flames of rebellion spark! We will not stand for this devilish act! 4 player split screen must return!
It’s going to be 2015 people…Let split screen die and get a setup you can take to a friends house.
As long as there is good 2 person splitscreen for matchmaking in Halo 5 I am content. Pity its not in the beta, but nevermind. It was like this in the GoW3 beta, which didn’t have splitscreen, but then the final game had great splitscreen. Also if anyone can remember weirdly the splitscreen in the Reach beta was significantly better than in the final game.
there better be 2 player campaign co op too
so tired of not being able to play co op on a couch with friends
We should be seeing an improvement and 4 player split screen being available in campaign not a reduction in all modes to 2 player.
I turn 30 next year. I was going to buy a 50" to have the guys over with old school Halo nights.
This will just help kill Halo faster.

I was taking my pc to friend’s house to play Quake in 90s. With consoles gaming was suppose to be easier, because even as an teenager I didn’t found fun turning my friend’s house (or my own, as I wanted be able to play with my sis) into some kind of nerd-cave. I see no reason why split screen should die and I don’t see any sign of progress with less and less games not including this feature.
If it is true I honestly don’t mind

Co-Op has been confirmed

Well, some of us depend on 4 player split screen which is why we’re pissed.
Also, some of us cannot afford to buy another 50" TV, Xbox, and all the other junk that you need to have a functional setup. This stuff is expensive, and the economy isn’t particularly good right now, aside from the gas prices, of course.
Use your head. Why do you think online split screen is seen less and less with games?
When you play split screen, the console has to render the game twice (2 player split screen). This results in well…lag…
Have you ever noticed that there has always been a lag when trying to play online 2-4 player split screen? There’s a delay with your inputs. You can’t even play seriously if you’re fighting with the controls. That goes with all the original halo titles (except I can’t recall CE or 2).
I say scrap it if it doesn’t work.

This is next gen, it can work.

It works little different. Whole game (all calculation included physics, network etc. and all files included artwork, maps, sounds etc.) is shared for all players. All players are playing the same game!
Difference is that graphic engine has to render 2 or 4 scenes (screens) instead of just 1. As graphic engine is scalable thing (it knows which objects, with what level of detail to render, because otherwise it would simply not work at all), rendering 2 or 4 screens is possible as graphic engine scales down amount of details for each screen to keep game working.
This “lag” you’re talking about is frame rate issue caused by lack of polish towards implementing split screen. It’s not that game have to work laggy with 2 or 4 screens - if it does, it means developer screwed up (and 343i is screewing up split screen since releasing of Halo 4).
So in the end I don’t want choice: “laggy split screen or lack lack of split screen”, because it doesn’t have to be like this. I want polished, functional split screen. That was main reason I bought next gen console (that’s capable of rendering 4 screens in smooth 60fps, each one with amount of details same of 360’s single screen games) with several pads and huge TV.
I hope 343 makes it 4 player split screen in the final game. I mean I didn’t buy an xbox one, four controllers, and a 70" T.V for nothing. It’s a console, I should be able to play 4 players local split screen multiplayer with my friends and family.
When the MCC launched with a broken matchmaking (still somewhat), I could just go play local multiplayer with three other people. Now that news of Halo 5 not featuring 4 player local split screen, I’m not sure where I would go if matchmaking wasn’t working.
I hate the recent trends of new games abandoning couch play for online focus. I guess I’m just getting old now.
As long as there is some form of splitscreen, I’m fine.
If Halo 5 Guardians will only have 2 player local split screen, then 343 better have some sort of firefight mode or something worthy to make up for not having 4 player local split screen multiplayer.
