I haven’t played in like a year or so, but used to play quite a lot. I’m watching the HCS going on right now and it’s pretty hype, but I’m noticing it’s 99% pistol gameplay. I know the pistol is pretty balanced but everyone is just WALKING PAST every BR. I’m probably going to come back to the game later tonight after the matches so I gotta know, what happened to the BR that it is not even worth picking up anymore? It’s always been so iconic in this series and I remember enjoying and doing well with it.
There was another Weapon Tuning update a little bit ago. I don’t remember exactly what they did to the BR, but as it is right now nobody uses it because of the widespread recognition of higher performance with the pistol and, to a lesser extent, the DMR and Carbine. I suggest you go back in the news sections and read up on the update.
H5BR is even worse since after the “tuning”. Pistol is the main utility weapon.
Here is the tuning update. They also did another change after the update came out to make some of the scoped BR’s in Warzone have lower recoil when zooming in compared to the default ones.

It’s not terrible, I used it in Warzone just now and it worked just fine. Just keep in mind that it is meant for mid-range combat, avoid long-range encounters with the BR. That’s what the tuning update was going for, and I feel they accomplished this nicely.

I mean… that’s warzone, a totally non serious giant map mode. Is that all they want it to be used on?
They can expire their HCS codes in 3 minutes so no one can use them through their bogged down site, but can’t fix the BR in 6 months huh
BR was nerfed from the tuning update. Magnum is more consistent compared to the BR.

It was actually worse back in November. Back in November, the BR was given random spread and a lower rate of fire. It was re-tweaked a second time to make the bullets go into a consistent pattern, but gave it vertical recoil. Currently, it has a shorter red reticle range than the Magnum, making it a less viable option to use in Arena.

It’s mathematically worse than the Magnum. The RRR is shorter, there is a ton of recoil, it takes longer to draw, and (worst of all) it takes longer to get a kill with it. Literally no reason to use it unless it’s being used in Warzone with a long-range scope. Funny really, they initially did this tuning bs to keep people from using the BR at long range. Now, it’s only useful as a low REQ level sniper. This is arguably the most counterproductive “fix” to Halo ever.
The pistol is a weapon you usually start with. But unlike the stereotypical starting weapon it is actually pretty good. Why bother trying to get in the groove of a weapon you have to pick up with limited ammo when you can get used to a weapon due to using it right from spawn? And it performs almost exactly if not better in some cases.

Well I mean they used to have their own niche, the BR used to be a bit better at longer ranges. There’s lots of reasons to try to get good with pick up weapons, but if they’re nerfed to perform worse than your starting weapon then yeah, no real point
Cause the new one sucks and is outmatched massively by the carbine and magnum
The BR isn’t terrible, but compared to the pistol, it sorta is. The pistol is just a better all around weapon in every way. 343I says they are going to change the pistol at some point. It’ll be interesting to see what they do.
As of now, the HCS is 95% pistol, 2% Sniper, 1% Rockets, 1% Lightrifle and 1% Carbine.
In my opinion, it’s a big problem.
I think the magnum has become too OP that it is used more than most “primary” weapons, even as a “SECONDARY”.
What happened was as follows, the BR got stomped into a useless pile of scrap metal, it is by far one of the least reliable guns in the entire game and for me and most of my friends it just isn’t fun to use. So when the spawning weapon is world better then a pickup, why would you even bother dropping your default? To say it bluntly, the BR is no longer fun to use and the risk vs reward is so unbalanced that picking it up would be a logical fallacy and would put you at a disadvantage.
good i read this, i usually go for it. i tough the use of the magnun on the finals was a PRO´s chooise.
In short the “new” BR is garbage and the magnum is arguably the most consistent and versatile gun in the game.
