Dominion is one of my most favorite playlists, ever, I don’t know why, but it just seems the most objective and team based. However, it seems that I always get paired up with kids who don’t know how to play.
For example, when we spawn the WHOLE team decides to go to “B” while the other team splits up and goes to “A” and “C”. Of course instead of our team splitting up and capturing one of their bases, the WHOLE TEAM FOLLOWS ME to “C” and then the people at “A” see that, capture “B” and my whole team gets owned at “C” because of power weapons.
Doesn’t ANYONE know to at least have TWO people stay at the base you already captured?! Why does the WHOLE TEAM have to go to ONE base?! Most of the time I just stay at one of the bases the whole game and let my entire team go to the next base without my help, at least then if I have power weapons I can keep our first base and have some sort of a fighting chance!
It’s such a fun playlist, Longbow is the perfect map(imo) for Dominion since there is a huge mountain blocking “A” and “C” also with “B” at a higher elevation and a decent ways away, whoever has the higher ground wins most of the time. Just wish they took the banshee out of it Q_Q
Yes, The mentality for Dominion is to always have 2 bases held down. My team usually gets that concept and we usually have 1-2 guys at spawn base and the rest of the team at B. The guys at spawn base are usually the better players that can hold their own even in 2v1 situations and the guys that rush are the people that are usually better as a unit. For some reason my team of randoms almost always seem to understand that B is important and spawn is slightly important.
I don’t play Dominion. I remember how it worked in Reach, and really, for such a fast game type, the kill times are far too slow. It works in CoD, not in Halo, sadly.
I’m usually that guy in Dominion, who grabs rockets or icneration cannon and heads straight for the nearest base to take it over and protect it. I like Dominion, as theres not only benefit towards taking another base, but you can rack up points by holding your own base and defending it.

Don’t remember Dominion being in Reach(I did quit playing Reach months ago). It isn’t really a fast game type as it has a 5 second respawn time that can’t be bypassed. Maybe if the other team is spawn camping you, then yeah it can be quite fast paced, but if you have two out of the three bases, then it’s really slow, or if you’re holding down your spawn base.

I think people make the mistake of trying to capture all three bases, but this only leads to the other team spawning anywhere and destroying whatever form of map control you had previously. This of course leads to the other team taking the lead and winning if you team can’t recover.
> I still don’t understand the scoring in it but I think its fun. Honestly reminds me of Invasion, without the boring 1st and 2nd waves.
Scoring in Dominion works like this. You capture bases, then they fortify (shield doors, vehicle spawns, turrets). Once fortified, you’ll gain points when the bases “resupply” after a set amount of time. The more bases you have, the more points your team will earn. Note: Bases only fortify the first time they are captured. Subsequent capturing and recapturing will just send them to the resupply phase.
As long you hold two of three bases, your team is guaranteed to win. I don’t see the point of pushing the last base and sending the enemy team into Last Stand. That will just give OS to other team, making it easier for them to capture one, maybe two bases (i have had this happened and my team lost the match after they took B on Longbow).
Unless your team is extremely talented/over confident, then keeping two bases is optimal. Pushing that last one is just overkill and if they have power weapons WITH OS…better watch out cuz you’re going to lose a base or two :P.

This is exactly what i do when i play Dominion. For some reason i always come across teams who would just try and take every base without caring for the base they have previously taken. So I end up being that one player that holds down one base, against the enemy team coming after my base. And I’m not pro enough to go against 3 or more enemies with 1-2 of them having power weapons. Q_Q i feel your pain bro.

It just feels to me that, if you don’t know how to play, then learn or ask someone. If someone asked me to explain it to them after playing a match, then I would so help the person and if he/she doesn’t understand further, then I’ll load a custom games match to show them.
It isn’t a hard game type to understand! It feels like regular Halo 2/3 for me as you have to control certain points or might like a Tower Defense type game! So much fun, well at least if you get a decent team…
I agree. Dominion is extremely fun to play WHEN you have a good team , which is pretty rare to me.
I almost never win because of horrible teams i get put in.
Most of the time i get a team where 3 stays in one base , 2 is somewhere else and im the only one trying to capture the enemy bases. Yea its easy -.-
The people who already have this stuff pinned down are fast-learners. Congrats, you probably always pick up new games and gametypes the quickest. It just takes some people longer. It’s worth remembering the game’s only been out less than a month. Give the slower-learning folks a little while, they’ll get the idea eventually.
At the same type, get used to people wandering around clueless, because this happens every time a new map pack or forge map variant appears in matchmaking. The game’s strategies and whatnot will only be down to a science in the latter-half of the game’s lifespan. Coincidentally, that’s also when a game is at its peak, for me. The “perfect steak” of gaming.
