No need to attack, just camp?!?!

I just started playing Halo 4 again, and let me say it has become a lot more enjoyable than the stuff they released at the beginning. Seems like 343 is doing a good job!

Anyways, I heard something while playing that just irked me. It was a team slayer (infinity slayer, whatever) match and we were up 360-340 at the time. I’m playing with randoms and I start calling out where they were at (below me on Haven). So me and one of the other guys on my team start going after them. One of the people on my team said “Don’t go after them, we’re up, let’s camp and let them come to us!”

Seriously? People seriously think this way? Look at all the examples you want to. If you have such a small lead, you can’t just protect it. Otherwise you’ll lose. Sports. Games. Academics. Even if I’m up by 20 I’m still going hard after the other team. How does the Halo community feel about this attitude of “get the lead, camp.”?

BTW, the guy who said that wound up going 8 kills and 20 deaths.

Both of you were right in that situation. He was right to protect the lead you guys had and you were right to create a bigger lead. He probably thought his tactic was smart and your tactic was risky. And you may have thought your tactic was courages and his tactic was cowardly. Either way both of you were right IMO because these are tactics that i use. But if he only had 8 kills and wasnt a major contributor to the team then his voice doesnt matter at all.

Players that rush in pointlessly when your team is in the lead drive me nuts. I don’t camp per se but I definitely hold down and area and let them come to me.

I think being aggressive or being conservative can both be good team strategies in Slayer. The important thing is that the team actually cooperates with the chosen strategy.

A separate point though is that having the high ground is usually advantageous in combat in Halo, so that should be kept in mind on maps like Haven when the enemy is in the basement and your team is on top.

Depends on how you play the game. I’d hold a location I know that forces them to come to me. Making the odd somewhat in my favor.
I do this quite a bit in Doubles.

If my Teammates go in Rambo style I’ll most likely not follow. If you’re low shields or hiding for Regen I’ll be there to help with Regen field though.

So, by this logic that means my 5 kills 25 assists and 4 deaths mean I don’t matter? :open_mouth:

Umm, this game is made to camp. There is no reason to go afterpower weapons placed on the maps(since there are none), ordnance drops deliver them right in front of you. There is promethean vision which allows people to see where you are so they might as well camp a corner with a boltshot.

Well it depends. What weapons do they have? Do you feel confident in your ability to flank the opponent? Do you have the right tools and are you coordinated to make the attack? Then by all means go forward and attack them.

If they’re on par with you, it’s better to play defensive even if you’re in the lead. Battle is like a wave, you need to know when to go in and when to pull back.

> “Don’t go after them, we’re up, let’s camp and let them come to us!”

Camping is not a new strategy. I used to hear similar comments back in Halo 3 days. You often see teams camping on Ragnarok, with each team member finding their favorite rock to hide behind and ignoring the implied goal of taking the hill. Personally, I doubt the wisdom of turning a 4 axis game into a shooting gallery.

Don’t rush if you’re winning. Now camo campers those are a disgrace.

It depends on style and game flow. I have games where the rest of my team keeps going Lone Wolf, and I keep getting trapped out in the open by the other team. Those games, I want to hole up, and let them come to me.

I admit to being a very inconsistent player, and if I am having an “off” game, you might hear me request holding - although that seems like a pretty small lead.

Protecting a lead is always a good idea. Unless you’re down 2 bases to 1 in Dominion… in which case… get moving!
