No more Spartan Abilities

Let’s go back to the classic movement system. Armour abilities from Reach should return. Except for ARMOUR LOCK. Please for the sake of better gameplay, please no more spartan abilities.

ill take H5s abilities over Reach anyways. Reach was a disaster imo. Although I don’t like all the abilities in 5, its more enjoyable to play then reach was. With that said id be fine with reverting back to a complete classic movement system, although I don’t see it happening. Maybe we can get a throwback playlist in 6 with all old settings/maps for those that crave the old school games once & a while.

I highly disagree. It had its problems, but when I have to point out a disaster with the name Halo attached to it, the only one that really deserves it is Halo 4 in every aspect. Besides (maybe) the story - and even that’s debatable imho.

That said and personal taste aside, the main problem of Reach was how Armor Abilities were implemented and not how they worked. Loadouts were the real downfall of the game and got no place in the game outside of Invasion and Forge. If abilities weren’t set with loadouts to chose from at respawn every match, we would have got a really balanced game overall - aside from bloom, grenade damage and strafe of course. Not claiming that Reach hadn’t its fair share of wrongdoings, because it had tons of it. However I loved the idea of a basic Halo game with modular adjustments attached on upon it instead of just tweaking base movement mechanics. By doing so if something doesn’t work it’s easier to change or even to get rid of, because AA are not basic mechanics like they are in Halo 5 Guardian. Reason why sprint in H4 and H5 has so much more impact upon the gameplay compared to Reach. Just make abilities pick-up equipment again like in H3, problem solved. Make them also stuckable, at least in Forge, to recreate old modes from Reach onward.

…and if there is a special playlist, it should be for a H5 gameplay style and not for classic movements. It’s way easier to implement extra mechanics and re-balance the game around it (especially level-design wise) than taking the opposite round. Weapon balancing will be off in any case way or form though imho.

Honestly I don’t mind the Spartan Abilities. I started with Halo 2 and like the classic movement, but I don’t think the abilities are all that bad. Sure some of them can be annoying like the Spartan charge, but you can work around it if you’re a decent enough player.

I was thinking the same thing. Reach did an awesome job (besides armor lock) with their abilities, but I feel H5’s abilities flow much better than Reach’s do. Even though abilities, in my opinion, are unneeded, they seem more natural in a way in 5.

Yeah exactly. I was never really liked the whole loadout thing with an ability attached to it.

I have loved every Halo game i have played, i don’t think ill care how Halo Infinite will play.

Or maybe we should get a playlist for ability-dedicated fans. Why do the classic mechanics have to get shoved into the corner?

Hey id be fine if it were the other way around!

I really don’t want the classic movement system back.
Spartan abilities definitely need revision though.

If they’re going to bring back Armor Abilities they should be used as equipment, exactly like in Halo 3. One thing’s for certain though—AA loadouts/ Spartan Abilities need to go. It’s not a coincidence that sales number and player retention began to decline as soon as Bungie and 343 started messing with the gameplay.

Keep thrusters but lower the distance you travel, keep clamber but make it so you can’t use it while falling, remove everything else, and increase BMS. Thaf is literally the best comprise for Halo Infinite. Like I said before, don’t expect to have the classic gameplay to fully return.

I’ve had this idea where some of the Spartan Abilities can be used in an alternative manner. Take the thrusters for example (and pretend we’re using LB for it):

  • Tapping LB grants a quick burst of speed in any direction, just like Halo 5. - Holding down LB will gradually propel yourself upwards, much like the jetpacks in Halo Reach / 4.

That sounds cool to me

Hi everybody, I didn’t think this topic would get very much attention. Thank you for your replies, and I hope 343 sees this.

Another alternative would be to not have any abilities at all and revert back to equipment from HALO 3

I like to sprint.

Whatever people’s personal preference, Halo 5’s Spartan abilities felt a lot cleaner than Reach’s armour abilities and offered a much more even playing ground. Although it would have been far more focused without the likes of Spartan Charge and Ground Pound. (Plus, Smart-Scope has no place in Halo.) I do miss the jetpack though.

Sprint, yes. Spartan charge, hell no
