One thing I loved about previous halo games was that you all started at the beginning of the game together and if someone quite they were penalized. I’m trying to rank up my CSR in Big Team Slayer and it is so incredibly hard when I repeatedly get put into games in progress because %90 of the time it’s because someone quite and I get put on a loosing team. On top of that I’ve been put back into the same game multiple times.
How do you other gamers out there feel about this especially those of you who like to focus on your CSR?
I think that if you are a good player, you can join a game in progress that is losing and still come out on top. I saw this happen in a SWAT game, where some gal joined into our team when we were losing profoundly. She then proceeded to carry our entire team. I think it should stay in.
Removing JIP is a bad move. It has its downsides, but I can’t believe so many forget the “wonderful” experience of having multiple teammates quit out, then either having to quit yourself or stick the rest of the game out with the enemy team attempting to spawn trap you.
For the more competitive playlists, I can see JIP disabled, but removing across the board would leave uneven matches remaining uneven.
Don’t get me wrong, JIP could use some tweaking. Being able to start games with uneven teams is the most glaring.
By some weird twist of fate, some people like Join in Progress. Personally, I hate joining a game where there’s three minutes left and my team is losing 270-40. Really kills the match for me. I’d love an option to turn it off.

That’s great in all except the majority of the population are average at best, myself included.
JIP works in theory, but the problem is 90% of the time people quit because they are getting destroyed and therefore anyone replacing them is going to be in a bad position when they join.
I have been using the ‘My Xbox’ trick to avoid JIP, but I spend 5 minutes + waiting for a match as players searching a playlist are being put into JIP matches instead of into new lobbies.

I completely agree. JIP should be an option at the players discretion.
And before we hear that tired old “343 can’t add anything new to the GUI” (the reason why this is has NEVER been explained either), 343 can easily do this outside the game.
First off, this sort of option (along with “Best Connection”, “Local Only”) is done on the server side, when the game players are being picked in the lobby. To implement this require them to change the servers to turn it on or off. It was off before the game was released and added in afterwards, so it likely can be turned on or off pretty easily.
For players to turn this on or off this (and other) options, we log into our WayPoint account (as I have done now to post this message), then click on a “Career” and then 343 adds a tab named “Halo 4 Settings” and we can go in and change it there.
So there we have it. This can easily be done if 343 gives a freaking care about how basic game play is done or that users need options.
Lastly, they can also fix the host selection method there too:
Its not JiP’s problem. It’s 343 making us go into games in progress without a choice, and then making it count. If they only counted as “Social” and not have those games count, no one would mind.
JiP is an awesome feature. Its not implemented in a way everyone on each side would be happy with.
