You know what was my problem with Reach forge? EVERYTHING WAS THE COLOR GREY! With everything on color, it killed the mood of most forge maps. And in addition to that, you can only forge on forge world. That was a huge problem! So things got boring! In halo 3, you could forge on small maps(like high ground) and still make popular maps! So I know there are 3 forge maps in Halo 4, but still It would be better to have more wider variety of scenery. And even if you did forge on maps like Powerhouse, there was still grey items! So yeah, map exclusive items would be nice to have. Also Button operated door and elevators would be nice. So anyone agree?
Variety is always a good thing
Halo 4 has been confirmed to have 3 different Forging environments, each with it’s own unique palette of items. Ergo: Don’t worry, they have it covered.
Also, you can Forge on any map you want in Reach too. People just don’t do it because there’s no point. But we still have some awesome Forged maps like all the Heavies variants. And MLG’s rework of any map they use.

Agree times a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000
That was my biggest complaint about Forge in Reach. Every map had me feeling like I was on Cybertron.
Always waited for Master Chief to say, “Cortanna, transform and roll out”
> Always waited for Master Chief to say, “Cortanna, transform and roll out”
too much lol to describe how much i’m laughing right now
There are a lot more things concerning me about forge than just the color pallet-which hopefully 343/CA are doing something about.
Mainly stability issues that have made Halo:Reach’s forge useless once you hit a specific budget.
But I loved all the grey!
/sarcasm
Lol forge kinda failed in Reach cause of all that mind numbing grey. Variety is a must have in forge, unless of course you just really love grey.
Grey and green need to be scrapped from forge in Halo 4.
Grey and green should both stay but should NOT be the only colors in the pallet, for real though grey is still a very important color, it’s just overwhelming when that’s all you see
I would LOVE a Flood forge world. That would be amazing. Really a forge world for each faction would be awesome, a UNSC, Covenant, Flood, and Forerunner forge world. I doubt 343 will do all that but it would be amazing. Oooh and different type of environments too, like jungles, forests, deserts, snow mountains, beaches, and volcanic areas would be awesome!!!
Hahaha. I was actually just thinking about this yesterday. I’m not sure how they could make walls less gray…we’ll see what they come up with.
Activating an elevator would be awesome, but I wouldn’t really count on it.
Typical of this community. Give 'em a massive, awesome mapmaking tool and they’ll complain that it’s ruined because it was “too grey”. Bah. Least it’s not H3’s clunky crapmaker.
I’m fine with varied Forge objects, but has it occurred to people that it was all Forerunner in Reach because their architectural style is best suited for the precision Reach’s Forge required?
P.s. But I’m just irritated at the “Reach’s forge was a failure solely because I couldnt make rainbows” people. Everyone else is fine

This. They’ve confirmed multiple, three, forge environments with their own set of objects, or pallets. They’re not grey.

There was ONE pallet in the game with ONE colour. How is that NOT boring? You cannot make good indoor maps without EVERYTHING looking exactly the same. It was just boring and way too repetitive, this is the main reason why custom games didn’t really ‘kick off’ in Reach the way it should’ve like in Halo 3.

I know you meant this as a negative, but I can’t help but feel that Halo could only improve by including Cybertron in its universe.
But yeah, the Forge maps need variety. You know what bugged me more? The colour option. All it changed was the colours of some lights on the object. If you’re going to add a colour option, why can’t it be a more robust colour option? Something close to what the Mongoose has. Why can a mongoose be all kinds of colours but a wall plate can’t?

Nice way to make a somewhat constructive thread with very justified criticism seem bad for no reason. Forge in Reach was a failure, not due to the options (they were good), but the limited pallet, the whole “50 shades of grey” complex really killed it. Well, that and the fact that Bungie focused so much on creating teh biggest map ever, they made it extremely limited since all of it has to be loaded even when you play on just a small piece, bad planning.
Games are supposed to evolve and get better, if you compared the Forge in Halo Reach or even Halo 4 compared to the mapeditor in Far Cry 2/3 you’ll cry at how limited it is. Once Forge showed that maps could be made on consoles, it was possible, but these days even simple 3rd party games can triumph one of Halos main features, then again even CoD manages theatre better then Halo so I guess no one’s surprised. Even so, the community should complain, should ask (make) the devs change forge and make it better!
Halo Reach Forge was a job badly done just like every other feature in the game from theatre to matchmaking, true skill to draw distance and frame rate, even co-op was badly done. No cannon or other bad excuse can hide the fact that Forge could, and can, be so much more then it is.
Bungie did a bad job, 343i are doing a better, let’s rejoice. However, I doubt we’ll ever see a true map editor in Halo since that might hurt the DLC/mappack sales, how horrible indeed (sarcasm).

Yes, the mapmaking tool 1000X better than Halo 3’s, combined with customization one would have to hack and mod other games for, was all rendered moot because the objects were grey. Uh huh.
No, it’s just you (and a couple other guys on this site) that finds anything wrong with Reach’s forge. At least you had a massive selection of objects. What did Halo 3 have? You could toss in an extra vehicle, crate, or gun, and that was about it.
Geez, they could create a planet-building tool with AIs and bots and people here’d still complain. Sad.

Reach’s Forge was ruined by grey, though.
Reach’s Forge was a very good map editor. But the grey-only palette was a crippling limitation – it greatly constrained what Forgers could do to direct the eye, and made maps less navigable. You also have to remember that when you’re designing Matchmaking maps, you need to design for performance, which leaves most of the interestingly-textured pieces off-limits.
So yes, it is possible to make a map so horribly, awfully bland that people get disoriented, get bored, and can’t play on it. And thanks to the graphics engine being as unstable as it is, many Matchmaking maps meet this description. And that ruined the appeal of Forge maps to most of the player base, which in turn ruined Forge.

The blatant falsehood of your statements negate any validity your opinion had. Forge in Reach was almost perfect. If I could show this post to the entirety of the Halo community they’d laugh their butts off.
Ugh, why do I even come to these forums? It’s obvious I could find a better opinion in my Yu-Gi-Oh-playing Xbox “friends”. I know people who play Reach solely for Forge, and you think it’s bad simply because of the colors of the objects. Ridiculous…
Leaving now. No need to reply, because I won’t read it and even if I did, it’s not like it matters.

Since I hit spot on your defences fail, you realise that you have no arguments to counter my logic since it is the truth and hence try to hide, pity. I’m glad you have “friends” that agree with you and that you can play with them and be happy, that sure is valuable, but I doubt anyone could seriously call Reach forge almost perfect, that’s laughable. Reach Forge is good, but nothing more.
As I dais, if your friends play Reach just for Forge they should try Far Cry 2/3 and they would be blown away. A map editor for real, a map maker, not a toll that allows you to do simple modifications to a pre-made pallet filled with limitations. Then again, such good map editor might be to much, the simplicity of Forge might just be a better thing after all.
As I said, which you probably read before you got all defensive, was that the total lack of colours was far from the only issue. The lack of different pallets, tools to modify the environment/geography, the fact that all Forge world had to be loaded even if you played on a small bit which made map design options extremely limited, the lack of varied pieces and textures etc. I could go on but we both know it serves no purpose but to further show that I was right and I have no intention of grinding it. Watch Far Cry 2/3, and see how Halos Forge could be, watch it and cry at the lost potential.
