So am I reading this right? Once you have placed in a league you can not gain higher than a 1700 CSR and Champion starts at 1800. So unless you place in champion right out of the placement rounds you can not get champion that season? See below for link to Feb. Matchmaking update.

i wanna say they mean that the highest csr you can get from the placement matches is 1700 but after that you have to earn the extra 100 to get champ
No, what they are saying is, you cannot place into Champion from your first 10 games, since the max you can get after the 10 placement games is 1700 and the Champion starting is 1800.That means after your 10 games, if you make it to 1700, you will still need to win additional games to get to 1800 to start the Champion race.

Thank you for the clarification I wasn’t thinking they meant the highest you could get from placement was 1700.

Ya, I read through it a few times before I posted. “Additionally, we’ve placed a cap on the highest CSR you can earn after your placement matches at 1700.” That could be interpreted differently.

This, and then it will just keep going up from there.
no, the 10 game ranking can only place you at 1700 max, so to become champ you must have 1800 CSR which means you have to play and win to be placed in it, you performance in your first 10 games in a season will not place you in champion.
The ranking system is also biased towards people that have a better K/D as I partied up with my friend and did the placements yesterday, we went 8-2 with myself getting 150 kills, 113 deaths and 140 assists. My friend got 170 kills, 94 deaths and 50 assists with both of us being 1 and 2 in all our games and having top most damage in each game. He got Onyx 1700 and I got Diamond 6. Explain that ranking system???

Your friend did better than you ergo he placed higher than you.
