No More Breakout?

I haven’t played in a while. I was gone for a long time. Years.

Breakout was my favorite match up. It’s no longer available at all.

What happened to it?

I think it’s part of the Elimination playlist now.
I haven’t touched it much myself, but they’ve got a few different breakout style gametypes in there.

Now it’s in the Elimination playlist, which contains the original Breakout, Breakout 2.0 and Extermination. Extermination really kills it for me, though.

Thanks guys!

I loved Breakout. I’m excited to see what Elimination is all about!

You will be disappointed I’m afraid! Having 3 completely different gametypes in a ranked playlist is a poor experience.

I am not a Quit Game type of person over my 14-year Halo career, but this playlist forces me to constantly quit until I get Breakout 2.0.
I’m sure the feeling must be the same for Breakout 1.0 lovers, it’s horrible to have to play a gametype competitively that you do not enjoy.
I’m currently on my 6th quit in a row, waiting on Breakout 2.0. Then as people Quit Game, the pool of players never reaches 8 and the game will refuse to connect after 2 minutes or so and you are shown an error. Just awful.

Having the Extermination gametype in there really confuses me as well, it makes no sense why it should be in here.

I really hope 343i hear from this relatively small community and make a change soon.

Yeah it’s elimination now but I hate that gametype. Just bring back breakout 1.0 and 2

I love breakout 1.0 and 2.0 to death. I could play those playlists all day. Every time I play elimination I get extermination, where’s breakout? I used to like extermination too, but now since it’s the only gametype I seem to get I’m starting to dislike it. In fact I don’t even touch that playlist anymore.

I loved grinding Breakout for hours at a time - it really became my go-to in that playlist. But now with the current combo I get Extermination more than any of the Breakout combos and I detest that game. I understand that things need to change up occasionally but I wish it was done with more weapon/map combos rather than complete game type changes.

Used to play all the time as well but Extermination destroyed the playlist for me.

No clue, was never a big fan of Breakout, and that’s not because I was bad at it. Most of the time I was the last one standing; I just never found any real entertainment in it. So when it got moved, I really didn’t notice.

Yeah, I end up scrimming with other Breakout lovers in customs for hours.

As others have mentioned the Elimination playlist is what you’re looking for.

To note:

  • The current Breakout v1 isn’t the same as the original Breakout v1. You retreat with the neutral flag now instead of pushing it into the opposing side’s base for a cap. This concept was originally introduced with Breakout v2.
  • Breakout v2 is pretty much the same as it’s always been. It came about as kind of a combination or blending of Breakout Arena and the original Breakout v1 except with some distinct differences in that you were given a shotgun and had to retreat with the neutral flag.
  • Extermination is a community created mode. It originally appeared as a featured rotational social mode. It received quite a bit of praise for being the mode that Breakout should have been. Not everyone agrees with that of course. In the end it got adopted for inclusion within this ranked mixed-bag Elimination playlist. For some it’s the primary reason they play the playlist, for others it’s why they quit matches or no longer bother searching. This philosophy applies itself the the Breakout v1 and v2 game-types too as some people are extremely particular.

breakout is one of my favorites game types, very original.
