So, apparently there are some people who weren’t happy with Reach. I mean, why not? Great game, great game indeed. And because some of these people were not happy with Reach, they are feeling oh-so insecure about Halo 4.

Well, let’s think hard here people. Frankie said in an interview that 343 has been working on Halo 4 for three years. That means the process started back in 2009, for all you folks that can’t count :stuck_out_tongue:

With that being said, we are in the third year of production for this title, with a release date somewhere down the road, say…eight or nine months from the date of this post (3/6/2012). So I think it’s safe to say, considering that we got some juicey tid bits in that vidoc, that the string of complainers like these:

"oh teh noez!!! there be’s moar AA’s in haloz!"
"this game doesn’t look like halo, blah blah blah"
and my personal favorite:
"I am an MLG enthusiast, and if 343 doesn’t pull through with this halo title, MLG is going to pull Haloz out of teh EMELGEEZ, I am sooper srious gaiz, I’m MLG, so my opinion is moar important"

have come about. Alright, you folks don’t like what you saw, don’t buy the game. I’m serious. Go play something else. Fact is that if MLG tryhards think their voices and opinions matter more then everyone elses, then I think it would be a safe bet to say that Halo will probably be more enjoyable without the complaining of kids too hopped up on ritalin and adderol.

Everything I saw in the vidoc looked like Halo. Sprint doesn’t bother me, I prefer it most of the time in Reach. I’m glad the BR is back. It’s probably hit scan, if not, spread wasn’t that bad in H3. Jetpack is fine as well. I’m sick of fighting with tryhards over powerweapons, so I’m glad that the respawns on said items won’t be predictable, serious countdown is horrid regardless of what playlist you play because people time shotty’s, swords, sniper (MLG), Rockets (MLG, etc… etc…

If you are the type of person who just habitually complains about everything, cool. But quit saying “on behalf of the community”, or “we want halo to stay halo”. You’re not the embassadors for the community, in fact, most of you whiny over priveledged middle class kids who live in nice neighborhoods, but find reasons to whine are frowned upon.

Don’t by the game, and save us all a headache.

I was hoping you would post in my thread.

Look. Reach sure didn’t live up to OUR expectations, but it still was a Halo title. Was it a continuation of H2 or H3, nope. BUT, let’s keep in mind that there are aspects to Reach’s gameplay that aren’t that bad, especially considering that Reach was not a sequel to any other titles, but a prequel, and was supposed to be Bungies swan song.

Honestly, I think Bungie got senioritis, said to hell with changing anything, shipped the game and washed their hands of the lunacy which has become the Halo “community”.

People need to stop whining about gameplay footage that wasn’t that substantial. I mean seriously, we haven’t seen that much of anything, and the whiny kids who play Halo who think they run the show are pitching a fit.

You guys don’t think Halo will be good? Don’t buy it. In the grand scheme of things, it won’t matter because the majority of players who LOVE halo, TRULY love halo will react to the game’s release like this.

And that’s not a bad thing either. IF the game is a flop, just think, we will be stimulating the economy. If it’s a massive success, we’ll be stimulating the economy. Either way, the game is a good thing.

Lol, you’re going to act like these “MLG tryhards” are mentally challenged or something, right? Truth is, if you put a bunch of these ‘tryhards’ in a room with 343, and let them have TOTAL control with 343 being the medium to produce the game itself, we’d have the most diverse Halo experience to date. It would be playable at all levels of competitiveness thanks to the fact that 90% of the MLG community know their Halo inside and out, what to add to make a better experience, what not to add, what frustrated people in Reach and why, etc.

You would see TRUE innovation.

Just because you play Halo casually doesn’t mean everyone should, and you can play a competitive game at a casual level, but it doesn’t work the other way around. The MLG community just wants to be able to kick back and play some Halo without having to worry about Sprint/AAs/Bloom/etc.

Open your mind to the fact that other people have opinions. We want to play Halo, not Call of BattleGears.

You start of saying that mlg players are elitists who think there opinions are far superior and then you basically start trash talking them and saying that their opinions don’t matter and tell them to not buy the game just because they’re trying to voice their opinions to 343. If you like the changes that 343 have made then GREAT! Go make a thread talking about why you like the new changes, but don’t go making threads hating on the people that didn’t like what they saw, because they’re entitled to an opinion aswell.

I think we can all agree that Reach’s story could’ve been better, but I always find myself returning to the campaign. Why? Because it’s fun, that’s why. Unlike Halo CE(Only 343 Guilty and The Library, everything else was pure gold), 2, or 3, there weren’t any levels in Reach that I outright despised, which made it very easy for me to just replay through the whole thing.

As for multiplayer, yeah, Vanilla Reach was pretty frustrating but the TU has renewed my love for the game’s multiplayer.

That’s cool, because we’re obviously not talking about single player or campaign here, and when you started talking about MP, you agreed that Reach sucks pre-TU, and the TU only made things more competitive, so you’re essentially saying you want things to be more competetive in Halo 4.

I said it was frustrating. I get frustrated at every Multi-player game. And by the way, to me, Halo isthe campaign. Halo isthe single player experience. I wouldn’t care if 343 did away with MP all together and focused all of their assets on making Halo 4 to be the most thrilling, action-packed, story-driven piece of narrative it can be!

Besides, that guy above never specified “multi-player” or “single-player”, he simply said Reach was a bad Halo game, and I have disagreed with his statement. Invasion is still Vanilla, right? Because that’s the only playlist I play nowadays. It’s weird how we had Elites since Halo 2, but we didn’t get a Spartan vs Elite playlist until Reach.

Reach often cops this criticism -unfairly in my view. Fact is that Halo 3 was always going to be the sales peak of the series (regardless of what came next.) It was the end of the trilogy, it was Master Chief, and it was before series fatigue had set in for some folk. Most importantly, it was before the unprecedented rise (and industry wide domination) of COD.

It’s naive to think that Reach would have performed to Halo 3 levels if the MLG fans were in charge - just look at the pitiful numbers in that very playlist.

Halo needs new blood; needs to take risks and become relevant again. Combat evolved.

He was saying stuff along the lines of “if you don’t like what you saw then don’t buy the game” and to me this sounds like him saying “I like what I saw and if you didn’t then don’t buy the game”, which basically means that he thinks your opinions are invalid if you didn’t like what you saw and you should just abandon the series instead of voicing your concerns.

Well, some people actually do just that. Some fans of the Assassin’s Creed series are considering passing on Assassin’s Creed III just because of it’s setting.

I think it’s one thing to voice your concerns, but don’t you think people should wait until we have actually seen more?

How about: if you want to play a game that doesn’t play like Halo, YOU go play 1 of the hundreds of other FPS’s out there?

Halo is the heart and soul of gaming for many of us, and we don’t want it changed because it’s the only game that we like. “You guys” have hundreds of other games, yet you have to destroy the one thing that we poor vanilla Halo enthusiasts hold dearest to our hearts? And you call US jerks, lol. You guys are like the kid with 100 toys that you never play with, but if someone tries to take 1 away and give it to someone who has nothing and you throw a fit and call us selfish. Nice.

Also no one is saying no more changes. We just don’t want any detrimental gimmicky mechanics added that absolutely ruin what made Halo, Halo, saved the Xbox from bankruptcy, and is the sole instigator of the huge online console gaming scene that exists today (and that includes the CoD games). When adjusting for inflation, Halo Reach’s numbers are about half that of H3, clearly showing that many players were turned off. Yet CoD continues to grow and has actually surpassed H2 in it’s dominance of the market. It’s not like it’s impossible to have the dominance H2 had. Ask any of your friends who don’t play Halo anymore and they will tell you that Reach just didn’t feel enjoy like Halo, or whatever else. No one except those who loved Halo but sucked at previous games appreciate Reach and such changes as putting power weapons on random timers. If something as simple as that occurs, Halo will be destroyed.

Yeah lets wait until the game is completely done before we voice our concerns on it (even though it’s probably too late already).

If you see a car driving at you, you’re going to move out of the way. It may or may not have stopped, but on the slight chance that it didn’t, you’d want to make pretty certain that you were out of the way. That’s all we are doing. We have 1 game that we enjoy, and it was tarnished and destroyed with Reach, we would like for that not to happen again.

Well we know that there will be some sort of gameplay changes caused by your armor, the only things that this can be are things like, increased speed, extra ammo, extra shields,etc… and also there is gonna be random weapon spawn times to.
Now the perks are gonna serve the same problem as AAs, which is that everyone wont start on equal footing(and what’s worst is you need to earn them by in game progression, so you may not have all the extra abilities to choose but your enemy might).The problem that the weapon spawns are gonna cause are similar to the problems caused by bloom which is that it’s a random variable in a fairly competitive game which is very bad.

This is pretty much the exact post I’ve been trying to make ever since I came here, but I could never find the words.

Cute, but allow me to counter-point.

If we put ANYONE in a room with 343, we wouldn’t see innovation, we would just see a re-hash of H2/H3. That’s a fact. Don’t get me wrong, I liked H2, and I LOVED H3 (I had a few 50’s in some playlists, NBD), but I liked Reach for some things as well. Reach was innovative, it was just implemented poorly. You take a bunch of players that were used to spamming their BR and stick them in a game where they have to pace their shots with a DMR, and your going to get a tidal wave of hate towards the game. I saw AA’s as more of a gimmick that at times could be game breaking, but for the most part was a somewhat fun addition. I play on Bumper jumper, so the transition from H3 to Reach was a little of a challenge, especially when going up against people who use Jet packs, but I solved that issue by getting a controller from Scuf gaming. Problem solved because I now have a controller that has map-able buttons on the underside of the controller. I can now Jet pack, shoot, and turn at the same time. 343 rolls out a title update with limited bloom, and BLAM! the game is all the more fun.

Now, it seems like you are trying to speak for all of MLG when in your rebuttal, but I can say with all honesty that you don’t. I’ve had lengthy conversations with MLG kids, some of them pro’s like Naded (he’s a pretty chill guy). They don’t hate Reach. Like everyone else, it took some getting used to to adapt to Reach, but for the most part people have. Again, I love H3, but in some aspects H3 doesn’t hold a torch to Reach.

As far as 90% of the MLG community knowing their Halo inside and out, I won’t disagree with you on that, but I’m a former HLG kid that has broken more maps, and figured out how to glitch through barriers/walls/soft kill zones/etc, SO I would say that I probably have a better working knowledge of the game then most people. And that goes back to Halo 2 as well (covering H3). I know these games, I have been on the forefront to discovering their insides and out for a long time now. I can assure you that as new titles come out, they will never be carbon copy’s of any one game. They will be Halo, and a little more. That’s how it’s been since Halo 2, and that’s how it’s going to continue to be.

Things can be made better, sure. But Halo 4 isn’t out yet, and people are literally peeing themselves out of some kind of fear that it’s not going to be the Halo that they expected. Get over it kids, or don’t buy the games. You want cookie cutter shooters? Go play CoD.
