After all the recent info coming out and especially with the new concept photo with what seems to be the didact, I highly doubt this is taking the MB route, and the flood even.
It seems to be concentrated far to much on the guardians for H5 at least.
We don’t know what the Guardians are doing or what their purpose even is. They could be controlled by Mendicant Bias fighting off the flood on infested Outer Colony worlds for all we know.
I really hope that Mendicant Bias is involved. There have been so many hints to him being a part of the game, it would be a huge disappointment for it to be otherwise.

There are many hints troughout the lore that lead many to think we would see him sooner or later
Wild theorizing. The visions of Cortana in Halo 5 are coming from Mendicant bias, thinking it is the best way to spur the chief into action, some have suggested this kind of thing could be coming from the Flood, but I could see it looking that way superficially, MB would have a pretty in depth knowledge of Flood tactics anyway.
To what end? Maybe to head off the Didact, the Flood or perhaps both.

OB has been MIA since the Halo’s fired, so perhaps OB simply decided to wait and watch for the Flood to return. Hunt for the Truth has been talked about the Chaos that seems to be erupting in the Outer Colonies . So perhaps the flood are on their way, and cold, logical OB noticed, in order to combat them, is using the Guardians to eradicate sentient populations ahead of the flood’s arrival to slow their advance. Que UNSC and the Remnant/Didact seeing the activation of these powerful machines will rush to claim them, unaware of the reason they activated in the first place.

Chief is most likely being taunted by the gravemind setting up the flood for halo 6, but in the latest concept art of both teams and you see a massive figure at the top that is unmistakenly the didact. I think easily by MILES that the didact is in control of the guardians or will in some form attain control of them after the absolute record arc in escalation.

They will probably be awaken at the absolute record or something will happen there with it, didacts digital essence takes control of “lead guardian” so to speak and will ensue his hatred for mankind with the gravemind taunting chief with vision of cortana setting up the flood for either the end of halo 5/ start of 6. or perhaps setting them up for six.
I remember when I used to be convinced the Flood would be the main enemy in Halo 5. They have to come back or else they broke the rules of Chekov’s gun (specifically in the Forerunner saga)
