No Invasion, Larger MP Battles

When Josh Holmes stated that “Invasion will not return in Halo 5” I was devastated because Invasion was one of my favorite game modes in Halo: Reach. But when I read that we will be getting “Larger MP battles” I got really excited. This most likely means that 343 is going to increase the player count for MP. I am wondering if Josh Holmes meant that the name “Invasion” will not return, but the characteristics of the game mode will in some way. Right now, as I’m writing this, I am imagining some sort of Invasion game mode in Halo 5: Guardians. There are two teams. Team Offense could be Locke’s team and Arby’s team combined, and Team Defense could be Jul 'Mdama and his forces. Or 1 team would be Blue Team and the other could be Locke’s team. Idk…I’m just brainstorming ideas. What do you guys think about what Josh said? Got any ideas? Please discuss.

That’s actually pretty disappointing. I imagined Halo 5’s Invasion would include a Spartans vs Prometheans option. Sure you would have still had your classic Spartans vs Elites in some form, but I thought playing as a heavily armed and armored Promethean Knight would have been a fresh take on the preferred species option. Just imagine playing as a Promethean Knight. Instead of Spartan abilities, you would have Promethean abilities. Things like teleportation, the knight lunge, and of course melee using that awesome Promethean Blade arm. (Still not sure how Watcher summoning would work though). The game would play out with Prometheans and Spartans taking turns defending/assaulting a Forerunner asset. The team which gained more control would be rewarded by being able to activate Forerunner turrets, summon Crawlers and Watchers, and so forth.

It’s a shame this idea will never be put to good use.

Noooo why would you say that, you’re making this news so much more sad! :, (

… Playing as Promethean Knight would be really awesome honestly.

I wouldn’t think either of those ideas would work exactly With what they have for multiplayer. 1 is no npc, everyone on the battlefield/map should be a player. Spartan ops or Coop is a different story.

Either way I’m excited to be away from invasion, I personally wasn’t a fan, I usually never am with those types of conquest gametypes. I just hope it’s awesome. Larger scale, whatever we’ll have to see.

Yeah, that’s the point.
Both the role of Prometheans and Spartans would be carried out by the players.

I loved invasion, but the only problem was making maps for the game type.

We still have halo 6, fingers crossed! This sounds really cool.
I did enjoy invasion, but it kind of annoyed me how easy it was for a team to get momentum and then just steamroll you

I never thought about a spartan vs. promethean option. This is would have been the best multiplayer mode hands down, shame 343 won’t include it.

Exactly. 343 needs to start doing innovative things like a Spartans vs Prometheans game mode, rather than just making another super soldier space marine shooter.

Invasion, Dominion, Extraction, Firefight, Headhunter, Stockpile… Halo is littered with really good, but not very popular game types which have fallen by the wayside. For whatever reason, Halo = Slayer. It’s getting to the point where even CTF feels pretty exotic. Even H4 Action Sack is just a pale ghost of the variety and weirdness that Action Sack used to be. Guess we can have any flavor we want as long as we want vanilla.

I am thinking halo 5 is going to be the game where they test all the new BTB like bringing up player size and if it works they will start adding stuff in like invasion again and etc.

Yeah, i was gonna preorder until i read about no onvasion. Invasion in halo was the step int eh right direction for Halo BTB. Halo 4 seemd like a misstep, but i was hoepful for invasion’s return in Halo 5. Guess they too focused on itty bity teeny weenie “competitive” maps with 4v4.
