I can’t believe they took out invasion. They could have improved so much on it. I was hoping for a new and improved invasion gametype in halo 4. While I am liking Dominion, it doesn’t satisfy my itch for invasion. It’s nothing like invasion. I want an attack and defense mode where one team attack and the other defends and the game progresses on. Kind of like rush from battlefield. I don’t care if elites are not in. It doesn’t have to be like reach’s invasion.
Dominion is kind of a successor to Invasion in the basic sense. It may not be Offense vs Defense, but the basic princibles of taking over enemy fortifications and being able to upgrade them does kind of remind me of Invasion.
A true ‘vanilla’ invasion would be tough to achieve without Elites and making dedicated maps solely for the purpose of Invasion.
Dominion is nothing like invasion in any sense. While it looks epic, it doesn’t look like a replacement to invasion. Like I said, invasion doesn’t need elites. It could be just Spartans against Spartans. I want an actual attack/defend gametype that progresses. Both teams get to play as both the attackers and the defenders. In these type of gametypes, you have one main objective, either attack or defend. It doesn’t need separate maps either. I can see it working in both longbow and exile and any other btb map as long as the basic setup is the same for all maps. You can have something like capturing 2 territories first then arming 2 generators(remember generator defense from halo reach beta). Then retrieving a core or flag. Think of battlefield’s rush mode. It could be epic for halo 4.
Again, have any of you guys played rush from battlefield. You don’t need elites for invasion. Hell you don’t even have to call it invasion, make it similar to the one in reach or even have unique setups for each one as long as you have a attack/defend mode in which the game progresses. One team attacks/capture/retrieve objectives while the other team defends it and the game progresses on.
I get the concept, but Invasion never really captivated me much. Quite frequently, it just came down to camp the enemy on the first round and watch the game come to a halt. At least in Invasion you might have an edge with the Elites due to their regenerating health. In your proposal, it’s just basic Invasion with Spartans.
Dominion reminds me a lot about Star Wars: Battlefront, something I always founds better than Battlefield.
What the heck is that suppose to mean?
So if one person believes team snipers is a good mode, then team swat should me removed. That makes no sense. And what do you mean by BTB. It can be btb slayer, btb capture the flag, btb assault or btb territories. I love BTB playlist but that doesn’t mean that invasion should be removed.
Dominion does look like an epic gametype. I am probably going to end up playing it a lot. The problem isn’t dominion. The problem is that there is no attack/defend gametype that progresses. Look even if they make a gametype like battlefield’s rush mode, it would work.
Think of it like this:
1st base(for all invasion maps (which would be all btb maps) ): Attackers have to capture 2 territories. And defenders have to stop them. Kind of like first base from halo reach invasion.
2nd base(for all maps invasion maps (which would be all btb maps) ): 6 Attackers have to arm two generator. The 6 defenders have to prevent the attackers from arming the generator. Once armed, the defenders have to disarm it. If the attacker successfully blow up both generators, they earn a point and move on to the next base.
3rd base(for all maps invasion maps (which would be all btb maps) ): Attackers must go into enemy base. Capture the flag and retrieve it to their base and then they win the whole round. One flag ctf basically.

And invasion was just a 3 stage objective game type that was 6v6
Just add that game type into BTB and Boom everyone is happy and the population goes up
Invasion was just 3 gametypes on 3 maps, yet despite this it was more popular than the entire Objective playlist and it had so much potential to develope. 343 missed a trick there I think.
My best experiances with invasion are the matches where you fought and slowly pushed up inching closer to the capture point as a team and it was better to stay alive to have teamates spawn on you then get a bunch of kills off spawn. The only time the game sux is when you have dumb teamamtes who continue to rush over and over without working with other players
The thing about Invasion was barely anyone ever focused on the objective. Most of the time they were like, “Okay, let’s see who can get to the vehicles first,” and would mostly just focus on killing the other team. Or, if you were on the Spartan side people would just spawn camp the Elites and that was no fun.
Just add a One sided Objective mode that progresses through the map to BTB, Invasion felt like a half done mode to me ad it could have been done 1 million times better.
Lack of invasion makes me sad, but Dominion pretty much fixes the problem. Not only does it seem more fun, it might also be malleable enough to create a custom version that looks and feels exactly like invasion. Elite MP models I can do without. (Luxury problem)

I don’t neccecarily agree with that.
Invasion would be far more balanced with Spartan vs Spartan gameplay. Hell, they could have even used Flood models for a twist on regular Invasion.
There was plenty of potential for Invasion with or without Elites. It’s just that 343i didn’t want to go that route.
And to be quite fair: that is understandable, seeing as Invasion isn’t popular at all on Reach at any given moment.
In a way it’s a shame. Because with more diverse objectives, better spawning system and balance, and some more diverse maps (also in terms of size), Invasion could have been great.
