So just play something else? What’s the problem here? No one here cares
@WDM_III I hear you, on the progression, but what ever happened to playing because the game is fun? All these rewards don’t mean a thing, they have no substance. It’s only a bonus. At least playing the game gives you an experience.
try playing to have fun? idk
I for one am glad the weekly challenges are finite. Once they are out of the way I can just enjoy the damn game and play how I want. They are too intrusive.
If you need a BP to enjoy playing halo maybe try a different game
To everyone saying play for fun. I do. But whats the incentive to keep playing? You get progress for nothing at a certain point. Ive played all halo games and waited for midnight releases like everyone else who loves halo but now I cant constantly progress towards armors and other things that used to be free? Now i can only progress so much throughout a week? Again, the post is there is no INCENTIVE to keep playing. Just seems like a bad setup.
If youre only playing for a progress bar you’re playing for the wrong reasons.
This sentiment kinda reveals that the gameplay isn’t good enough. If this really was great gameplay you wouldn’t need challenge as motivation to play.
I’d argue there are various things wrong with the core mechanics of this game. Sprint/slide/clamber, terrible physics, no collision etc.
Along with a lack of content, few playlists, maps or modes, weapons, vehicles.
And lastly performance issues with hit detection, and mediocre to bad maps.
This. Everyone saying “why not play for fun”, well maybe I would if we had grifball, or infection. Maybe I would if the btb had the chaotic rush for vehicles and power weapons that it used to. Maybe I would if I liked the weapon sandbox enough that I could constantly be switching up weapons and playstyles instead of relying on the same meta weapons every match.
But I can’t do any of that because none of that is in this game.
Usually then at this point I’d defer to campaign, firefight, forge or customs. But oh look, they’re not in the game yet either.
I can’t even play pvp to rank up because ranks don’t exist yet.
Truth is, for all everyone saying this has the best gameplay of recent Halos… without all that content it really doesn’t? It gets stale super quick and without my friends online or some challenges or goals to reach, there’s really not a whole lot drawing me to it when I can just boot up one of the 200 other games I have on game pass or steam and get a more novel experience from them.
While the progression system is dogwater, games are meant to be played to have fun. Not to unlock trivial stuff where you won’t even use 99% of the stuff you get.
If you’re playing a game solely to unlock stuff, that isn’t a game. It’s a job.
But that’s the problem. The game doesn’t have the variety of gameplay in its current state to purely be sustained by people having fun, unless playing 300 games in the same 4v4 playlist is your idea of fun.
I get your point I really do, but for what its worth this just shows the game isn’t feature complete enough to keep people playing without incentives, which isn’t good…
I completed the weeklies within a couple of days and have gone back to mcc. I play games to unlock things (even though I never use them) as to me that’s enjoyable. Some people will find that strange and that’s OK. But to keep me playing Infinite they need to add a lot more incentive from a personal perspective.
I mean, when I personally play Halo I tend to only want to play Slayer and absolutely nothing else, so the amount of content doesn’t really bother me at the moment. For me, I don’t need a massive variety of modes, but the lack of stuff like Infection is definitely a hard miss from 343.
I’m just not the kind of gamer that requires “incentives” in order to play something I find fun. That said, I’ve been having a ton of fun playing something like Forza Horizon 5 and that’s in part due to unlocking something quite literally every 10 minutes, but when it comes to my shooters, I just don’t personally need that kind of drive.
I personally blame the direction gaming has been going for the last couple of years. People have gotten so addicted to their progression systems and needing to always unlock something that they stop seeing the game for what it is and turn it into a chore. What does one do once they unlock every thing? Just drop the game and find the next part-time job to grind out?
Back when I played Apex, I just found the game throughly enjoyable. The Battle Passes were just icing on the cake. Once the ranked mode came out, my incentive was to get to as high of a rank as I possibly could, because I enjoy stiff competition.
That makes sense and I’m sure it’s good enough for you but you’re one very specific type of player in that regard. Then again, even for you, there isn’t currently a slayer playlist. In a Halo game.
I do agree though, people have become addicted to their progression systems, but I don’t think it’s “people’s” fault. It’s the industry taking advantage of consumers psychology to hook them on a game like feeding a dog treats.
That’s what this whole “live service” model is. You could release a full feature complete game with 15 playlists, 24 maps & 30 gametypes on day one, and it’ll be the best launch ever and people will play it constantly for 6 months.
Or, you can release 1/3 of that, put up a battlepass to force people to grind that content to death, then release the next 1/6 and do the same, on and on for several years.
It’s an industry trend that is killing the launch quality of games, and that’s before you start bringing in all the microtransaction systems preying on whales and all the rest of it. The whole gaming industry is suffering from this, but that doesn’t excuse company’s like Microsoft / 343i from launching their games in such states.
if I do well I am not rewarded, so my only reason to play at the moment is challenges, which have me play in specific, forced ways.
it’s a terrible system. I can top a scoreboard, do all sorts of insane stuff, and end the game with 50xp to my battlepass.
amazing! at least Microsoft will make millions from whales though. all is well in the world, right?
I finished the weekly day 1 all 3 times, and they can’t even bother to give us 100 XP if we win and 50 if we lose. People have no reason to try to win or play the objective. People just goof off because they get 50 XP no matter what they do. I’ve even seen people with their controller stick rubberbanded to walk in circles or forward just to avoid afk kicking, to farm 50 XP without playing. The whole challenge system gives players zero reason to care about playing the game.
I disagree. In every game since creation you work to achieve something. If my only objective is to play the same 4 types of games for 50 exp regardless of what i do that only counts towards seasonal progression, then what is the incentive to keep coming back? I play the game for fun too but fun isnt incentive. I can play other games i find fun instead where ill actually earn stuff. Whether its levels, cosmetics, pets or whatever.
I agree. If I had some grifball, infection or duck hunt it might be more fun to stick around. Oddball CTF and Zones gets old quick especially when youre stuck with teams that make you feel like youre beating your head against a wall.
Why is your first thought to play against marine bots in matches for xp? lmao that sounds worse than just not even playing the game. Just play fiesta or arena if you want 50xp. At least then, you might get better at the game. You will never get better at the game by playing against marine level bots.
cause its a quicker match to earn the same 50 exp
