No, im not complaining. Just hear me out

Obviously i’ve never played on there new Halo 4 maps, but from what i’ve seen, they look bland, and gray. Now Narrows from H3 for example looked like this too, but it turned out to be a fun map.

I personally believe casuals and competitives are equally important, but at the same time I think Casual should come first. Casual gaming is the reason game’s even exist. The main reason anyone should be playing a game is to have fun. Being competitive is good and all, and it’s alright to take it seriously. But it should never get to the point where you’re depressed over a loss, unless you couldve won something of value.

Take the first few Halos for example. The maps were easy to fall in love with because the heart of the maps were casual. Player spaces built purely from imagination, with the gradual integration of competitive dynamics. Sounds, effects, backgrounds, nature. These maps were built to be fun and long lasting. Remember Guardian’s dark green mist and forest background? Turf’s large city? Sandtrap’s dusty, wonderous hills that shot missiles when you tread?

Halo at it’s heart and core is casual. Reach’s mechanics and features were casual. It went wrong with the competitive maps. It should be the other way around. The gameplay mechanics should be competitive(to a point, with halo), and the maps should be beautiful and memorable.

Im just reminiscing, that’s all. I just finished playing little bits from each game so far. H1’s sense of making you feel important, and those awesome aesthetically memorable sounds of the alarm on PoA. Halo 2’s MANY glitches, tricks, and eggs that added hours to exploration. H3’s in-campaign animations and STUNNING aesthetics in color and environments that made maps FEEL funner and memorable.

I have 100% faith in 343. I just wanted to share my opinion. So yeah :stuck_out_tongue:

While Haven is indeed gray (Forerunner), the lighting really makes it beautiful. I think the lighting alone makes me want to play the map.

Adrift… is an abandoned ship converted for the military. Its obviously gonna be a bit dark, but I think it’ll be fun.

You think Longbow is gray and bland?

Otherwise, I completely agree.

An absolutely beautiful post, my friend. Bravo!

Not Bad jpg

I agree with you that Halo 4’s maps should be more visually appealing and memorable, but Haven seems like this already. What it lacks in color, the map makes up for in fantastic forerunner design and beautiful lighting.

The old Halo’s were more casual than the new ones? LOL thats a good one

I’m hoping we get to see requiem’s surface when we look below on haven.

I don’t understand the point of the OP. Reach’s maps are garbage, ESPECIALLY from a competitive standpoint. Amazing previous maps like Midship, Lockout, Battle Creek, Guardian, Turf, Narrows, even some bigger team maps like Waterworks, Sidewinder, Valhalla, or Containment, were ALL designed with the competitive value o fbalance, and strategy in mind first and foremost. And they were all amazing for it from both a casual and competitive standpoint.

Strictly Aesthetically, the reason Reach failed even casual is because the maps just don’t look interesting enough, the play-spaces just aren’t as fun to be in. Yes they are aesthetically less “imagined” and more “believable” and that removed alot from the enjoyability. But saying previous Halo maps cater to casual play, and Reach maps cater to competitive is the opposite of the truth.

I don’t think so, they look really vibrant and alive.

Haven does have some elements in it that are not the greatest, imo. I do like the how Longbow and Adrift look though. I can only hope the other maps share traits from them as opposed to Haven. To me it is not the grey coloring as much as the washing out of all colors. I see what they were going for but it doesn’t do it for me…the lighting is really slick though. The map does look to be a lot of fun despite not being aesthetically pleasing to me in its current iteration.

(slowing starts clapping hands) nicely done,I agree
