Oh, I should probably bring up that this didn’t happen. (I probably should’ve seen it coming.)
I guess the thing about that is… why would we want that over the old model?
Every 3 years we were getting a new, content complete, game. We got new graphics, features, a full campaign, PVE modes, multiplayer, forge.
After the terrible launch of Infinite, the only redeeming quality would be getting more regular content. If the devs aren’t spending their time on the game engine and new graphics, they need to be releasing campaign content more often than every 3 years. At a minimum, there needs to be at least some kind of addition every year. Maybe every other year is a larger addition, or every 3 years adds a new campaign, but we need something canon and signifiant every year or Infinite is useless.
The labor should work out, that without engine development time for a new game, they should be able to put out a full length campaign every three years like they use to, and put the extra dev time into putting out 2 large DLC in the two yeas between campaigns.
If you were speaking to me the answer is no.
Not remotely sarcastic.
Just a level headed and reasonable response to a totally ott OP blmaking way too much out of literally nothing. Haha.
What did people expect to see?
We know the state of the game already how can its absense at a single event be cause for any more concern.
Weve seen the road map.
We know 343is history.
To expect anything at that show was misplaced hope and its to be expected absense made perfect sense.
Hey, I’d rather the old model too. However, this is what they’ve decided to go with, so I’m trying to figure out what would be a solid model that might actually happen. And I completely agree that, with the removal of having to start from the ground up since it’s not gonna be a whole new game and engine every 3 years, that should free up time and labor that could be put into maybe pumping out a new game length campaign every 2 years instead of 3, or the campaign they bring out is significantly larger in that 3 year time than it would’ve been as a standalone game launch. Maybe put out a minor ODST-esque like side story campaign between the full new campaign launches to help sate the hunger for more campaign content while waiting for the next part of Master Chief’s campaign.
Right, but the fact we’ve arrived at this point 6 months after the game came out in such a broken and incomplete state sucks, so it’s not hyperbolic to point that out.
Once upon a time Halo was THE flagship of the Xbox brand. Now it is nowhere to be seen other than a couple small tie ins, probably done specifically to draw attention away from the fact the franchise itself was absent from this showcase. That’s huge, the management of this franchise has been a -Yoink!- disaster.
@SpaeRockMatt its clearly hyperbolic to say they are “actively trying to kill halo”, no question in that matter.
Crash/metal gear was the flagship property at playstation
Sonic was the flagship property on the sega hardware.
Project gothem was the flagship racer on xbox.
Sure its sad to see it decline. But all franchises are likely going to do just that.
Playstations current success shows this 2.
Either they let studios do new IP or they reimagine an existing one to give creative freedoms.
To retain leads and good creatives you need to let them be creative.
Clearly MS isnt doing that when it comes to halo.
Thus the managament is ever changing and all over the place and obviously projects suffer as a result.
Or conversley the changes they do greenlight are so far removed from what the community want and that quite clearly has rotation as a factor as well.
Further to say the absence of 343i is a red flag is just hyperbolic rhetoric or pure unadulterated ignorance right?
A red flag would have been if they had showed up.
Shown a big cg trailer for new content or new work in prgress gameplay.
Despite us all knowing the road map. Knowing they dont have the time or resources to spend on prepping for presentations when the game is in its current unfinished state.
If they were there it woyld have been a red flag, an E303 no smoke and mirrors bs revisited.
Why would 343i make new announcements when they have a road map outlined for the current time and dont want to go ahead of that seeing as they are already behind?
It would have been a distraction that would have caused more issues for the production pipeline.
The absense provided literally no new info.
The red flags were prerelease.
The red flag was the road map that already confirmed what OP claims the absence confirmed.
We know that the show was also fpcused primarily on new releases in the next 12 months.
We also know 343i have there own seperate events to communicate and had they anything really exciting to show is would likely be for next winter.
They also had quite a few scifi fps games to market so making them compete with halo for exposure and peoples recollection is just a poor choice.
Them not being there was distinctly positive.
And entirely expected.
So with all that in mind I’ll hold my initial take.
There have been red flags about this game since they didn’t initially release a dedicated Slayer playlist.
There’s been red flags about this developer since MCCs bungled release.
343i: we’re listening!
Worst thing is…summer is already here, lol.
Less work.
All I’ll say is your definition of a red flag is very different to everyone else’s. All the excuses for why this isn’t a red flag are red flags themselves… And it’s certainly not a positive if they didn’t show up, or a negative if they would have. The only positive thing that can happen right now is a sign that content is being produced. Any absence of that is bad, simple as that. It is not a sign that content is being produced when they are silent, that’s a sign that content is far, far away.
Probably because they’d get shouted off the stage by all the people who can smell their BS.
No sir.
The definition is as follows.
“Something that infuriates or incites anger.”
Theres no reason as to why the very much expected absense of 343i at a conference would do that.
We already had all the relevant data pertaining to the game.
We knew there was nothing for them the show at this time.
There hasnt been a single excuse made by me on this topic.
Rather it seems people just refuse to see the writting on the wall or learn from the past.
Resulting in this cyclical hype, disappointment and outrage.
The fact you dont see the benefit of them not putting resources into the conference is akin to screaming “I dont know how game development works.” Far as im concerned.
There are myriad goof and long established reasons as to why they A.) Werent going to be there
B.) Would have been a disservice to us if they had.
It should be abundantly clear as to why by simply taking a second to consider the entire run up to release since reveal.
Never said their absense was a sign of content being close did I? Certainly never did so intentionally.
Anyone who saw this as a red flag is so incredibly deep in denial id question their sanity.
This wasnt some magic show that was going to accelerate the process we already have an outline for.
We have so much worth critique yet time and time again it seems the forums are filled with people just not paying attention and getting their hopes up without cause for doing so.
This absense was not a warning of issues it was a reiteration of info long public.
Ergo the OP is clearly hyperbolic in nature.
