Correct me if I’m wrong but flood got wiped out when the 3rd halo ring was destroyed however they are in war games (which is just a training simulator for the Spartans). What is the point in a flood training simulator if they are not in the game?
So you can play the game-type.
And so if the flood ever come back.
Flood return?
They are not in Halo 4 but that does not mean all of the flood is gone. Spartans need to be trained for anything, it doesn’t matter. I’d rather be trained to handle the flood and never encounter them then stumble across them and die because I wasn’t prepared.

The Flood are not likely gone.
In Halo 3, the Unfinished Ring being constructed on the Ark was activated outside the galaxy. And being incomplete didnt have the same capability/blast radius. It only killed the Gravemind and Flood that were currently on the Ark if the ring literally exploded. If it fired properly, then it only killed their food…so they are still alive but hungry… and that didnt really stop them when the forerunners tried starving them.
But Graveminds are a type of flood, and there are likely more on other Rings we havent found or on other Forerunner installations. Similar to Flood being on the Heretics Forerunner station in Halo 2. (hopefully im remembering this correctly)

by that logic we should be able to play as elites since we need to be trained to fight them…
343 just half butted it the whole MM is canon thing.
The Flood aren’t wiped out, they just lost a Gravemind for a while.
So they can put Flood into multiplayer, but not Elites…makes sense

Or maybe since humanity had a “truce with the Covenant” they didn’t feel the need to train everyone to fight them? How should I know?
I’m no Halo scholar but that makes more sense to me, the Flood however are still a threat. Even if the UNSC still thought of the covenant as a threat basic combat tactics would be enough for training wouldn’t they? The Flood takes an entirely different approach so yeah, training is needed.
Either way, the multi-player canon thing is weird and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
