Josh Holmes/Tim Longo confirmed that there will be no flood in Halo 5’s campaign… But stated there would be a surprise (or two). What could this be? Are they referring to in-game enemies or a character showing up that hasn’t made a physical appearance in any campaign yet? Here are the most likely candidates if you were to ask me.
BRUTES: Enemy Faction (Seems likely since they are also an enemy type/faction that would be reappearing after being absent in the last game, similar to the Flood)
MENDICANT BIAS : Forerunner AI designed to combat flood (Lore junkies would be ecstatic)
FORERUNNER(S): We have only seen 2 in the games so far, both appearing in Halo 4. Seeing a couple unseen/un-named Forerunners would also be quite the surprise.
PRECURSOR(S): Nuff said.
So what do you guys think? I’d love to hear your ideas as well.

I would love to see the return of the flood. I missed them in 4. I think they coupled with an appearance from Mendicant Bias would make for some awesome campaign moments.

brutes are busy, like dead busy
mendicant bias, didn’t he go…
forerunners, we technically only saw one of them in H4, and a “forerunner science i don’t have to explain -Yoink-” AI ghost of another. but seeing more would be interesting, even more interesting if they told us how they survived the halo array
precursors, i don’t think the games are ready for that section of the lore, maybe H5 will set up halo 6 for them, but 5 is not ready
no flood but surprises is interesting;
maybe we will be introduced to new monitors, maybe some forerunners still exist in the domain which…
im pretty sure got its -Yoink- handed to it by the halo array being fired, i’ll re-read the relevant novel to be sure, but maybe it just takes a very… 10000 years… long time to reboot
might be going to meet the didact…
i don’t think he’s dead, read escalationwe track down the prophets?

Maybe they don’t directly appear in game, but by proxy? Similiar to like a “in the past” sort of thing.
I’ve always thought it’d be cool if Master Chief activates some device to try and stop the Flood, but accidently revives a Precursor from a cryo-sleep. The Precursor would just be all badass and kill the Didact in one flick of his fingers.

Agreed. Although, this is the surprise I would want after reading Cryptum and Primordium, it would spoil it. I even thought they kind of spoiled the mystery of the Forerunners a little too much in Halo 4. However, I think they should at least make a reference to the Precursors or the Timeless One in terminals or something, that would be really cool, or maybe an Easter egg in the game.
It will be interesting to see what exactly is attacking those 5 colony worlds, and why Chief is needed. and what the Guardians are exactly… that’s what I’m pumped about, not necessarily the whole Chief vs. Locke thing, but the underlying main plot.
But I believe the surprise is either no surprise and a plot similar to Halo 4’s where we focus on one new enemy the entire time or a twist involving the Precursors (with the reclamation supposedly happening, this isn’t impossible.)
Elite arby mission confirmed (not really, but makes the most sense from these hints and the general community love for elitrs which they’ve hardly not noticed, e.g 10000 post thread)
If they’re going to show precursors, they should introduce them as a ‘legend’ or a mystery for several games before building up to a climactic reveal. Introducing their concept and showing them off in one game might be a bit rushed, since they are such a big thing in the Halo universe.
