If firefight returns (and hopefully it does) I hope that a majority of its playlists online are survival oriented, instead of arcade oriented. What do you all think?
I agree. While Firefight should still offer a wealth of customization options, there should be more emphasis on the survival aspect, like ODST.
It would be a great idea for them to include Firefight Arcade only on weekends, sort of like Grifball for Halo 3. Since it is kind of a nonsense playlist, I think it fits well with a 3 day span. You have 3 days to goof off, but after that it’s back to the real playlists.
Survival Firefight was overshadowed in Reach by the abundance of Arcade. I probably played Reach firefight with lives about 5 or less than times. It stood completely no chance against Arcade. I think Firefight may have to be reworked so that it is a blast, but still challenging. The survival firefight in Reach usually spelled imminent death approaching quickly. TBH, even I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. ODST seemed better…
At least have it so that the last person alive will have to finish the rest of the enemies off, so that everyone else can respawn. If everyone dies, then that means game over. So there will be much less recklessness.
I loved arcade. It was aptly named. It also was ideal for working through some of those awesome Reach commendations. I see no reason why they can’t both return.
Actually I think that Arcade made Commendations TOO easy to unlock. However, this would serve as even more incentive to play on the weekends.
I really want them to do an ODST style Firefight. Even with all the options Reach’s had, you still couldn’t replicate it.
And, yeah, Arcade Firefight is fun and all, but it gets old fast, especially when it’s what you end up playing the most in Matchmaking.
I’m in full agreement with you.
I played a LOT more Firefight on my own, or doubles than I did with 4 players strictly because of Arcade. There was literally NOTHING good about it, no ammo conservation, you were near impossible to kill, and when you actually did die it didn’t matter because there were infinite lives.
Limited was a LOT better but rarely got voted. And I think if Arcade didn’t exist, people would have actually been good enough to finish it more often too.
Also I’d like to point out that there are two Firefight Commendations that take the longest to unlock:
Vehicle Destroyer, and Perfection.
Firefight Arcade was actually the hardest to unlock either of these in for a good player for two reasons: 1 - Phantoms only came in for the first and last wave of a round, meaning that in a game you had, depending on map, between 1 and 8 vehicles spawning ALL GAME, these vehicles had to be shared by everyone in the game. VS Firefight Limited which spawned Phantoms every wave giving you 150% MORE vehicles than Arcade to work with.
And 2 - In Firefight Arcade there was always that one Heretic wave… That one damn near impossible to survive no matter how good you are wave.
There should be dedicated playlists for both. You guys realize you’re arguing for something to be taken out simply because it was more popular?
They should make it with ODST’s.

Because no one ever votes for anything but Arcadefight. Boosting is just so much easier when there’s no challenge.
If needs to be much rarer.
I loved ODST’s style of “survive as long as you can”, but I also loved Reach’s ability to do what you wanted with the waves and skulls. Why not have them both? Just have the ODST mode as a default variant, or at least have the options to make it similar?
I want customisation.

I’m arguing that Arcade should only be available on the weekends. Similar to how I think Action Sack and Grifball should not be long term playlists. It would serve a more useful purpose if they were only able to be played occasionally.

I’ve said the same thing about Husky Raid in H4’s Action Sack. Sadly, no one listened.
We’re still ignoring the fact that all the votes means it’s insanely popular among the player base. Why are we removing something popular? If it’s a weighting issue, then fix the weighting issue. Or, like Snipers in BTB, move it out into it’s own playlist. There’s a way around this doesn’t punish a gametype for being very popular. Removing it is not the answer.

All the votes that would go for Firefight Limited were going towards things in playlists like Team Slayer. The population that wants a challenge is not going to play Firefight when all the people who do not want a challenge are in their, choosing Arcade. It completely denies players like me the ability to play Firefight with a difficulty.

I hear you. It’s still not a reason for removing it. Split it out into a separate playlist. If Guardians should have anything, it’s the population to support a very granular playlist selection (what Halo 4 started out doing, but ultimately couldn’t support).

I didn’t like how Halo 4 took out certain playlists to include others. I hope they establish early on what they want to include. And regarding Firefight Arcade, I hope that at the very least it is given its on playlist, away from Limited. Although since 343 stated there are no AAs, Arcade might not even be there. I think a large part of the playlists likeability was the use of the jetpack.
