I mean, am I the only one who is completely heartbroken over this? The amount of content that’s focused towards unlocks for Spartans in multiplayer is pretty astounding, not including what’s in store for future updates…But just imagine, if they had the same exact amount of content for Elites, and had them as a playable race? I used to LOVE using Elite’s while I was in matchmaking, but it seems the more games they released, the less love the Elite’s got, soon, faded to nothingness, I’m just waiting for a Halo game that brings them back in full, in all their matchmaking glory, Just like halo’s last great game…3.

Unfortunately, I think you’re right. It’s been around for 3 years, they’ve had plenty of time to look at it and respond but they never have. Hell, we even went to the Elite homeworld in Halo 5 and 343 still left them out of multiplayer. I’m starting to think they’re holding some kind of irrational grudge against them.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of the hingeheads in matchmaking. With the ‘pro’ feel 343 would like Halo 5 to have, there’s no way they’re going to split the user choice in an in-game character model though.

They could at least bring them back for Custom Games and Forge… and they could stop being lazy and bring back Invasion too. But this is 343 we’re talking about.

I think the big concern with adding Elites as a playable race would be that they would have to have at least a comparable amount of armor variations for them as well. Also, the Elite character model is larger than Spartans, so they would have a larger hit box giving them a disadvantage from a competitive standpoint.
It would be cool, but it’s very unrealistic for them to ever do again. Not to mention that they have other more baseline content gaps to fill first that would require less effort than a slew of new models, animations, armors etc.
It might be cool to have Covenant Fire Teams in the future. Maybe even with mixed species like Grunts, Hunters, Jackals, etc.
Not taking into account the troubles of actually putting them into multiplayer post release as stated above, I don’t think they would really fit the theme of the game anyway. They aren’t a big part of the story, and you really only see them because the Guardian happens to be on their home world, where humans were not even supposed to be going to in the first place because of the civil war.
That being said I wouldn’t mind having them back in the game, it always made me laugh back in Halo 3 to be playing as an elite but using the female voice. It was silly as hell, but hey not everything can be super serious all the time.
I think they should add elites back, if not for gameplay reasons at least for machinima makers’ sake
