Is there some trick to this achievement?

I’ve played through it a few times, and on one occasion I did not die the entire mission, yet the bleep bloop didn’t happen. Are you also supposed to keep both science thingies alive as well or something?
Yes there is a trick. You have to do it on Heroic or harder.

When the third “ACTIVATE” button comes up, do not press it. (This is the one jammer thing under the ramp of the main structure)
Just keep killing stuff, and the 'cheevo will unlock during the mission.
Well that’s dumb, considering it says “Normal”…
Besides that, we did a play through on Legendary where I didn’t die during the defense part (but died before hand and sometime near the end) and I still didn’t get it. How long does “the defense” last for? The whole mission? 2nd half?
Ah, it might have been the 3rd button bit. We’d always press it immediately after it pops up.
You’re also allowed to die and lose one generator thingy.

That is interesting. I got the achievement before that marker even came up.
I didn’t get it when I died and lost a generator, or thingy.
But then I got it when I died and didn’t lose a generator, or thingy.
The trick is to do it on Heroic, and after you defend the Signal Beacons, but before you activate the switch inside the structure, kill ALL the enemies (usually another 2-3 waves will spawn if you don’t hit the button right away), the achievement will pop up no matter how many times you die.
