But you’re acting uninformed and no, you aren’t cheating by using a controller. You’ll find most cheaters on PC and some on Consoles but it’s not because they use a controller.
Please do some research on why Aim Assist is needed for controllers (and there are many different types of assistance, many think there’s only one and do love to claim AA is a cheat.)
I actually would love for 1 game, just 1 game, for the devs to not lie about the AA and actually turn it off. (Rainbow Six Siege does this. They swear it has no AA but it actually does. Other games also lie and call the feature something else entirely and not AA.) Seriously, don’t say " it’s off " when it’s really not so it can still be played. No, I want a game to actually turn it off completely. So when it’s off or set to zero, it truly is off or at zero and watch the mayhem as controller users can’t play the game.
Because that’s the input they’re most comfortable with. You shouldn’t have to switch to get a better experience. All of them should feel good.
And besides, if you’ve been playing halo since it came out, you were playing on a controller. There was no crossplay back then. There was only xbox and it stayed that way for 15 years. There was literally zero fuss about aim assist being “op” until crossplay happened.
I’m gonna point out that MnK players seem to want a monopoly on play because they consider themselves more skilled? That’s rich. Sure you can try to co-opt what was traditionally a controller game as your own now that you have interest in it but you’re going to have two decades worth of fans who only played console games with controllers ranting and raving at you because it’s not about you. It’s about the experience as a whole. And that aiming experience needs a ton of work on both ends.
Controllers are at a slight disadvantage WITH aim assist. They turned it down to make it balanced because somehow that makes sense to them? Controller is gimped by design and aim assist brings it up to be playable. It was not added in to make you op or to do the work for you, it is there to make up for something you can’t do with a half inch of space: precise movement. Nothing more, nothing less. No one should feel like they are cheating because of it.
So many people don’t understand what aim assist actually is and does. How can some people think using a mouse with your full arm and desk space as range of motion is comparable to using a single thumb with half an inch of space to move?
So yes for many, controller with aim assist being slightly worse then kb&m is worth it. Controller WITHOUT aim assist is dumb and should have never been considered as a balancing thing.
I’m not sure about “more” skilled but definitely the skill is more 1:1 on M&K compared to controller. What I mean by this is every adjustment I make is just that, made by me. Comparatively, every adjustment made by controller isn’t necessarily an adjustment made by the user, due to player magnetism.
So, in my opinion, it really becomes a factor of true skill vs machine assisted skill. Whether either one takes “more” skill is up for debate, but we can’t deny one is more “true” than the other.
No. That’s not how it works. You don’t get to duck someone else just because you THINK they have an advantage.
Maybe people just need to get over the fact that crossplay ain’t the greatest thing in the world. It’s just a pain in my -Yoink!-.
Because of that function, we have people trying to nerf aim assist because they perceive it as a cheat rather than a requirement to play on a controller.
They’ll say “Just use a mouse.” I don’t want to use a mouse. I’ll tell you if I want to or not.
I shouldn’t have to keep coming on here and explain to people that controllers need aim assistance.
I think we have to accept until there are split playlists at launch we just have to suck this up. Because I definitely think it is a debate of “true” skill vs machine assistance as well. I don’t doubt MnK players are usually quite insanely accurate. But grinding your gears on what is at least half of the player base and blaming the problems on them is highly unfair when the game is made for them as well.
I posted this in another thread, but for players that are having issues - do me a favor. Can you try out these control settings? I’ve been playing since CE and this made me feel right at home in Infinite once I altered a few things up from the defaults.
No, seriously! Try this! A regular teammate of mine who only started playing Halo just this past year uses these settings in Halo Infinite performs spectacularly in matches we play together. I’ll get 5-15 kills. He’ll be carrying the team with 25 kills lol. Since changing to these settings and getting used to them I carried a BTB match last night with 27 kills and 14 assists for a KDA of 15.7 and this was super late, my eyes were tired and tearing up too lol. It feels like it doesn’t fight you anymore.
I will give this a shot myself and update this comment with my results. Thanks for popping in and giving some advice. Hopefully this helps, even if only a little.
EDIT: It’s better, but it’s still not the greatest. Something feels slightly off still. But these settings definitely helped.
I’ve been using these settings since first flight. It definitely helps to make the game much more playable but the underlying issue with aim assist is still there. The lack of precision movement is still having me lose fights I shouldn’t be losing. More often with certain guns then others such as the sidekick and commando. They should still bump up aim assist
