It seems you have to unlock emblems as a whole and cannot mix and match again.
I am dissapointed. I thought the emblem system in Halo 5 was disliked. I don’t mind unlocking things, I in fact like it a lot, but halo 5 took away the customization every other halo game had.
Maybe I’m jumping the gun and this is actually showing us peices of emblems that are a set but can be mixed and matched, but it really looks like they took the easy way again with emblems.
I noticed that too. It’s unfortunate because I was also hoping for the traditional emblem customization. It also looks like the mcc style nameplates will be replaced with the halo 5 style that is tied to your emblem

I didn’t even think about nameplates at first… Those were so nice to have expanded in mcc.
Meh…H5 kind of made me not care about nameplates anymore. Not that I really did care other than just recreating my ‘lion with -Yoink!- hat’ tag for every new game. As long as we get detailed character customization like Reach I’m fine.

I much prefer Halo MCCs method, having nameplates and emblems seperate, all they need to do is add in the Halo reach functioanlity to scroll down and see everyone’s armour in the lobby and it would already be a VERY good pre game UI. Also let me talk to everyone in the lobby before and after a game.
Please allow us to mix and match emblems 343! I love using my grunt with the line crossed through it.

What’s going on in 343 head? I really don’t understand what they are thinking. I’m really trying to be hype and have the best good will for the game and they are tying their best to prove me that I Halo should have died with Bungie.
No custom emblems… NO CUSTOM EMBLEMS… I understand having “cool” namerplates like in MCC and you an sell those (that an laziness is probably the reason behind this ultra dumb decision), but the emblem is yours, “this is me”, “this is my emblem”… not anymore.
Really disappointed at 343 (again). The game is not even close to release and they are already selling us stuff. At this point probably our only salvation is that Infinite flops, 343 move to other IP (no, I don’t want them unemployed, but they are definitely no the people for Halo) and another studio come and reboot the hole saga from Halo 3. I don’t know, maybe all 343 games can be a Masterchief nightmare while he was sleeping in the forward into dawn?
While I like the nameplates, I actually like the goofy emblems in Halo 5: Guardians as well, so I am looking forward to seeing what is available.

Completely agree with this. I wish they would keep good ideas instead of replacing for whatever reasons.
I wanted the Halo MCC emblem system, it was like the old one but also had the new H4 / 5 emblems, I hope at least they have the option to use the old emblems and not just the new ones.

I am of this (unpopular) opinion as well. I get being bummed that there is less customization, but I do not get why some people treat this as the end of times. It is just a sprite. I just hope armor customization is good like they said it would be.
That being said, it does feel a tad out-of-touch with the community, considering no one liked the new system.

Armor customization is said to be just like reach’s. That is better than emblems in my book.
