I can’t believe it was said that btb will have the AR and Pistol as the starting weapons. I guess lots have been complaining that nobody would scavenge the maps if it’s BR starts. Did everyone forget like almost every halo started with precision weapons lol especially in btb?
I feel like this just will give teams that get the precision weapons a huge advantage over those that spawn in with close - (someone medium) range weapons.
I personally would much rather have BR starts to defend against snipers, vehicles and other enemies off spawn. Also have a chance at hitting enemies that have the objective too which I don’t see with the AR or pistol. Are ppl really that forgetful about past halo’s?
Some of the maps were dreadful for precision weapons with wide open spaces, but Fragmentation looks to have a lot more cover and movement options so I think the idea is to have closer ranges battle with only a handful of precision weapons in the mix.
It is 12v12 so even with 2 BRs and 2 Commandos most players won’t have precision weapons to hand. Even if they do there is a lot of ways you can avoid direct confrontation.
I’m hoping the Sidekick/AR starts successfully make BTB feel like a more fun and casual experience all around. More chaos. With the grappling hook and electricity based weapons I think we will have plenty of vehicle counters too.
As long as the map design fits for the current weapons BR starts aren’t needed. Halo 5 btb was pretty awful because it was BR starts on maps literally designed with magnum starts.
I agree. Having AR starts in any mode is a terrible idea. You have no way to defend yourself against an enemy with a ranged weapon and are relegated to running around a map scavenging for a good gun. It’s absurd.
Wish they would put BR start in. Feels so boring using AR’s and spamming the pistol. It’s not like you “scavenge the map” now, you trip over power weapons at every turn. It’s not like people wouldn’t pick them up anyway. The vehicle drop off is a terrible idea as well, takes away from pushing control to get the vehicles when they respawn.
The people that designed BTB know nothing about how it’s supposed to be structured. This isn’t even BTB, it’s just a mess.

So… teams that control precision weapons will have a huge advantage…?
Yeah dude that’s called winning? I honestly don’t understand.
Br Starts in BTB was always an awful idea. It turns the game into a campfest where everyone just snipes each other from bases and hardly promotes any movement slowing the gameplay big time. There’s enough weapons on the maps where this isn’t a problem, you just actually have to travel to get them.
No to BR starts. That’s the whole point of scavenging. Would you drop your BR for an AR? No. Would you drop your AR for a BR? Possibly. Therefore, AR starts. And it’s not like this AR is bad either. You can easily defend yourself.

This, after playing out countless 0-0 slow CTF BTB game’s in Halo, I don’t want everyone starting with a BR, you could never go out in the open or move unless you had a vehicle.
And the AR and pistol are far from useless, sure you won’t challenge the long range fight’s but there are lots of close to mid range Areas with cover from long ranges.
You still get plenty of time with BR’s and Commando’s, and the rest of the sandbox, you just have to go get em, worst case scenario you wait a few seconds for one to spawn.
Aight, if you just want to sit on the cliff side and snipe people with 3 other teammates and be a bush you can literally go do that in mcc. OR would you rather actually learn to play the objective, have fun running around for weapons, and learn where items spawn?
Because the former is a terrible choice for players, and the second is great game design the original halo was based off of
If the br is well designed, then br starts are perfect for btb. It needs to be an accurate mid ranged weapon that falls off at longer ranges (NOT due to bloom ffs), not a sniper like H2 or reach’s dmr. The issues with btb in those games are not due to br starts, it’s due to the brs balancing.
H3 btb br starts are excellent, you can move freely without worrying about being mowed down across the map and there are still good weapons to pick up and use. Obviously you can’t just run out in the open willy nilly but that adds actual strategy to the game, you shouldn’t assume you can just run in the middle of the map in any game type with no consequences.
Plus, spawning with precision weapons adds actual come back ability. Ar starts is so lopsided once one team has control.
I like AR starts in BTB. In the past BR starts kinda made things more campy than they should have been because plenty of players are happy using that and with the AR there’s more incentive to run to get a different weapon. Also the AR in Infinite isn’t a bad gun. The sidekick isn’t bad either. You can definitely kill a player that’s using a BR with those or even hold them off by descoping them until you can get cover.
With that said I think they should have a game mode for AR starts and BR starts or even tailor it to the gamemode and/or map.

Yup. It’s just Warzone without the PvE, and while I think Infinite’s mechanics feel better in this setting than in the Arena, it still doesn’t feel like proper BTB, especially the bizarre vehicle spawns.
Yep, it about as bad as I suspected. Its so engaging taking several seconds after each spawn to get a weapon that can shoot back against weapons with range. And for all the whining about precision weapons ruining vehicles, it seems that virtually everything will rip apart the paper vehicles we’ve had since Reach.
Nothing like running around looking for ranged weapons, picking on fresh spawns who can’t fight back, and watching two players mindlessly hose each other down…

This, -Yoink- is ridiculous how quick the power weapons spawn, half the time you don’t even use a standard primary weapon because someone’s already headshotted you or killed you with the skewer, and the vehicle drops are ridiculously pointless, especially since they drop in the same spot at the same time on both sides of the map, just make spots where they spawn in.

> og reach and h3 had ar start in in evrything including btb, wasnt till mcc that this changed (for the worse i might add)
This is also WILDLY incorrect. Halo 2 had nothing but BR, Halo 3 BTB had BR/AR start, and Reach had DMR/AR start. Every Halo game since 2 has had the precision weapon start in BTB.

> Aren’t your starting weapons SUPPOSED to be useless, as an incentive to go out and pick up power weapons?
They’re not supposed to be useless. Just not as strong as power weapons.
Spawning on a large map with a close range assault rifle and a near-useless pistol is terrible for BTB. That’s ok on smaller arena maps, but BTB needs mid range starting weapons just because of the size of the maps.
No, BR starts are not necessary and BTB plays just fine. Just go close quarters, and you should be doing just fine. And just because BR starts were a thing in the past, doesn’t mean it has to be now, or else let’s just add armor lock because it’s Halo’s past. If you really want to play some boring, just BR game, go play Halo 3 or something.
