No Beta :(

The fact that 343 isn’t doing a beta for Halo 4 is a big mistake. If you want people to get psyched about buying a game, you gotta let them taste the awesomeness to come. I was really hoping for a beta, but after the interview with Frank, sadly there won’t be one.

Yes and No.

Yes: Ok, people will not have the chance to play the game before release and therefore will not know how amazing it is.

No (My opinion): Firstly, we will be given a lot of information regarding the game over the next few months and if Microsoft advertise Halo 4 like they have done with past games, the weeks leading up to release will build a hell of a lot oh hype. Also, if there isn’t a Beta it maintains the untouched value of Halo 4, people will be so excited purely because they haven’t played it before.

In terms of game quality and the purpose of a Beta. Frank said that the game and multiplayer in particular is being tested over a “wide” audience behind scenes. The two maps we saw yesterday are even being played and tested now, I’m sure they have been for a while now, it’s just not being ‘publicly’ tested. In other words, the game is still gaining somewhat of the advantages of a Beta, even though it may now be as wide scale as public numbers. However, it is still getting the feedback needed and improved quality the every game requires.

I’m a little sad, but personally it means actually getting my hands on the game will be made more exciting. And there are other ways to hype a game outside of a beta.

You have a point… but I still want to play it earlier than december :stuck_out_tongue:

That isn’t the purpose of betas.

I think we have a confusion between a BETA and a DEMO.

a Beta is where the game is not quite finished but just ironing come bugs out.

A demo is where the game is finished and you are getting a little taster.

A Beta’s purpose is for the audience to give feedback, be it vocal or statistical. In turn it will effectively improve the quality of the final product.

It is not to let people ‘play the game earlier’.

Patience.

I think a beta would be nice to test internet connections to their game servers with a high load.

While one might argue, since Reach is running quite well on their servers currently, and Halo 4 is built off Reach’s engine, it will be the same, you never know when you change stuff.

I live in Australia, and I can have some pretty good non laggy games with friends in NA, in Reach.
Europe however is very laggy and unplayable.
