No Beta?

Does this mean there won’t be a proper beta?

Link: Flight Plan

> When we first revealed Halo Infinite back in 2018, I spoke of our ambitions to kick off an early flighting program to bring the community along on our development journey. The Halo Insider program and public flights have been instrumental in bringing the titles in Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PC, providing critical feedback and input to help shape the best possible experience. With Halo Infinite, we are also committed to building the game in partnership with our community but given the unprecedented challenges of this year, we’re not quite where we expected to be in terms of broader public flighting.
>
> While not the full program we had envisioned, we have been working very closely with the community on nearly every facet of the project. From the earliest planning where we focused on broad feedback around art style and story to actual hands-on playtesting and focus feedback with confidential groups of community representatives over the past two years, Halo Infinite is being created in partnership with the community. The team is still working and assessing options for broader hands-on opportunities before launch and we’ll share an update when we can, but this process doesn’t stop with launch. In fact, in many ways, feedback and community flighting will be even more important after launch as we partner together to continually evolve and update the game into the future.

I’m not holding out hope, but maybe?
Assuming the game releases with the new console, we have a full 3 months left, so maybe next month with the next round of Series X updates?

I imagine we’ll get a short beta whenever they show Multiplayer for Infinite, which I’m guessing is next month.
I think with the global lockdowns the plans for flighting kind of get thrown out of the window pretty fast unfortunately.

There will be a flight for those with insider, but I do hope there’s a public beta.

To me, Infinite needs to be a stable, complete, full-featured and fully functional game out of the gate and not another early access title. I’d rather not revisit the many mistakes of the past.

i doubt a beta will be public avaliable any soon, with the covid situation they may also cut some parts of the game as well, the game is not that good anyway, wake me up when de half life 3 beta arrives idk.

This is seriously disappointing, not only from first impressions but also from communication and community engagement standpoint. 343 did rather well with the Halo 5 development by having a public beta period roughly 1 year ahead of launch and releasing The Sprint episodic glimpses into the development. We all understand that there are quite a few situations that have hurt development of many games over the past few months; however, the lack of a public beta to give valuable feedback to the development team (only to then say that there will be public testing/engagements after launch) is troubling, and indicates the readiness of the product they wish people to buy is not where they want it to be at.

If this were the case, I am surprised that 343 is not advocating Xbox/Microsoft to delay the launch to fix issues people bring up about the demo and provide even a limited beta testing phase. I know why Microsoft does not want that, but if 343 botches another Halo launch only to have to community do the testing after the fact sours the community’s relationship even further. 343 have had approximately 5 years to develop the game and build the Slipspace engine (which take quite a long time), and I am not going to pretend to know the inner workings of what goes on in the studio or how late into development they were tasked to create the Series X version. This news release leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe if things were not so screwed up in the world they would have had a beta to deliver, maybe not. Time will tell what 343 ultimately does, I pray they make the right decisions.

Yeh this isn’t good news. The point of the flights is so they can make sure the game feels like a Halo game, not just a test that feels like a ‘demo’. I’m starting to feel like 343i should delay Halo Infinite for at least a year, try to sort out the problems that are arising. When I saw the previous E3 2018/2019 trailers I had hope but now since the campaign ‘reveal’ I’m more worried for the game, the franchise. They were supposed to be having tests for all future Halo titles. Maybe they should stick to limited invites like Halo MCC instead of full public invites then make a more public flight later down the road.

Absolutely!

343 made a point to mention that post launch feedback will be important for making adjustments. Which is great…

But this thing needs to be solid right out of the gate. I’m a little nervous it will scare casual Halo fans away if there is no ‘real’ BETA.

It’s really not good news. 343i need the feedback before launch or they won’t have any time to make major changes before the game ships.

And we most certainly do not want the game to end up like MCC at launch, whereby it took months/years to get the game into a playable state.

Yeh sadly true. MCC is a lot better these days and to this day they still keeping doing flights to fix and improve MCC but Halo Infinite needs at least a year of more development based on what I saw from the campaign reveal.

That may or may not be true. If the reporting that the build was from approximately 6 months ago using older assets then that relieves a little stress. We will have to wait for more footage to come out over the following weeks. However, for the multiplayer and beta that is a different side of things that 343 needs to deliver on. I am being cautiously hopeful that they surprise everyone, but this is not the best foot forward in the messaging.

6 months might have had improvements but it depends on how much was improved in half a year, with the virus…things will have slowed down development so it’s probably less likely that much will have changed on the game overall. Plus if it’s ‘open world’ as it sounds then there going to have to check often with the general visuals which should take them a while. I’m hoping they surprise me too with the multiplayer but if we’re not getting a beta before launch then it has me concerned that they may rush a release out with no multiplayer included at launch, which means they won’t have learned from the Halo 5 launch disaster.

Ske7ch has already publicly addressed the concern of whether it’ll have multiplayer at release.

The original tweet “This Tweet is unavailable” that he’s replied to.

It recently got deleted, probably because of Ske7ch’s reply, but it was someone tweeting an article discussing the likelihood that there wouldn’t be multiplayer at launch.

Sounds less and less likely due to theb pandemic. At least at the scale they wanted.
