So I was just looking at some screenshots of Midship and the yet to be named urban/city map that will be in the Halo 5 Beta. I was looking at an image of the city map and noticed a weapon that was placed on the floor.
Take a look -
That has to be an Assault Rifle. Well, it is. Now does that mean that its on the map so that players can pick up ammo for the AR they start with? This, to me, seems unlikely. Can anyone tell me if the starting weapon has ever also spawned on the map in previous Halo titles? I can’t be sure.
But looking at this screenshot, and with looking at the E3 H5 trailer that featured MA5K Carbines, does this mean that the H5 starting weapon will be the MA5K and not the Assault Rifle?

What gave you the idea that the MA5K will be in Halo 5? It looks like a scopeless BR to me.
And to answer your question, it could mean a range of things. It could basically mean that there will be no AR starts in maybe a select few playlists only, it could mean that maybe we are going back to smg starts like Halo 2, or BR starts. Nobody ever said that it had to be AR starts specifically, right?
Right, but considering that AR starts were the most recent form of Equal Starts (Halo 3) it wouldn’t be too hard to assume that 343i were considering the AR. Also, it has been widely assumed that the weapon in the Halo 5 trailer is not a BR. Judging by the fact that there are 72 rounds in the magazine and that it doesn’t have a scope on it. The BR shown in the recent H5 Beta ViDoc does have a scope on it. Unless, it is a de scoped BR, and 343i are considering multiple gun variants? Or even attachments? Who knows, but I personally am going to assume the MA5K as it looks like a “descoped” BR anyway.
It may have a bigger magazine, but its appearance is identical to the Halo 4 BR. Plus, the BR in the Halo 5 trailer has a red dot sight, not a normal scope. Which leads me to assume that scope customisation is more probable.
Again, maybe this screenshot was taken from a specific playlist, like Legendary Slayer BR’s for example…I wouldn’t point my finger on anything until 343i specifically says so. AR starts could still very well be in the game.

An increase to 72 rounds? That’s just not a Battle Rifle.
The appearance may be similar, but we got a fast and blurry look. It could also be a relatively unfinished model too.
They look really similar to each other to the point with few differences albeit some very obvious ones. The 1st pic and 3rd are basically the same with the 3rd one lacking an optic as being the obvious differences.
Anyway I don’t think an AR on a map really means anything . It starts could be anything.

I’m well aware what the weapon looks like, and yet, the weapon in the trailer still looks nothing like it. As i said to JSA, the post above yours shows a rather accurate comparison between the BR and the weapon in question. It resembles a BR far more than it does the Carbine.

In all fairness it could be a new version of the weapon, much like how the BR85 Battle Rifle in Halo 4 is an upgraded version of the BR55 from Halo 2 and 3. Admittedly however, the Black Battle Rifle shown in the Halo 5 ViDoc does look a lot more like an alternate variant of the Battle Rifle (much like the silenced SMG from ODST), more so than a cross between the Battle Rifle and Assault Rifle.
OT: The weapon could just be a placeholder, or if my memory serves me correctly, I believe that there were Assault Rifles just laying around maps in Halo 3, or SMGs in Halo 2 just so that you could resupply. Besides, this is just an early build of the game, so I wouldn’t think much into it, i’m sure they have played around with a lot of possible starting weapons.

I 200% disagee. How could weapon customization be incorporated with fair starts? That doesn’t make sense. The weapon is not a BR, plain and simple.

Skins and cosmetic customization duh, plus spartans use smart link on most weapons, so it’s not like the scope serves any purpose anyway.
There are no loadouts in Halo 5. So when would anyone get the chance to use a different skin in multiplayer? I feel like creating different skins just for variety would be a tremendous waste of time, as armor cutomization makes up for the lack of other changeable aesthetics.

Tremendous is pushing it quite a bit, they’re textures, once the model is complete, a skin should take less than a full work day from start to finish, and equal starts doesn’t necessarily exclude skins.

Just an idea, maybe the skin automatically changes to your preferred skin when you pick up a weapon.
