I’m a true Halo Veteran, played them all and I can say that having assassinations in the game just puts you at a disadvantage, wacky, and doesn’t fit the mechanics of Halo really. I rob every person’s kill while they try to assassinate another person and so do most other players or in Lone Wolf. How does one not get upset that other players can just come around and ruin your animation? Halo should live up to the competitive side or else each and every little add on that comes with “New Halo Style” ruins the Halo originality and just makes gameplay frustrating. 343i DO NOT make it where someone can come up to your assassination and smack that player but no damage is applied either, because that would just be unrealistic and a lousy attempt to have assassinations as a feature in Halo Infinite. One last time, DO NOT ADD ASSASSINATIONS.
we love assassinationssss!!! great addition since halo reach
some players are holding on too much to “core halo mechanics” but lets not forget, core halo was created in 2001. Making a 2021 game with 2001 mechanics its just a bad idea.

Who is “we”? You got a mouse in your pocket?
Just make assassinations toggle-able, that way the ones that want to do it can do it and the others that don’t, won’t have to.
While I agree that I don’t like using assassinations, they should absolutely be an optional feature. Maybe I’m thinking of a different game, but don’t you have to hold down the melee button to perform the animation and tap it for the simple melee hit? Seems like the best of both worlds to me. Sometimes I can’t resist the air to land assassination animation!

You know about 2/3+ of players will likely turn assassinations off in Multiplayer because the feature only puts you at a disadvantage right? You will be stuck for however long it takes. So I ask you, what do you like about getting shot while someone is taking all your health away and the enemy you are assassinating? What if a player tosses a nade on you and the enemy you are assassinating and you both die. There is no benefit to the feature. I played every Halo Game and can tell you it really has no place in any Halo game old or new.
I think you are forgetting to view things from the casual players perspective. When it comes to competitive, sure, assassinations won’t be missed, and for people who only play ranked, this decision simply means it’s one less thing they have to toggle off. But from a casual perspective, assassinations are lit. It’s awesome to totally dunk on some dude who didn’t see you coming, even if you get nuked a second after doing it. It’s about sending a message, not being completely optimal. It is fine for you to not use assassinations, and not want them in comp, but try to be objective in how you view systems and features before asking them to be completely removed.
I feel like a lot of people don’t realize it’s always been completely optional. you press melee to beat down, you hold melee to assassinate.
If it makes a return, you can just toggle it off? From your point of view and how you explain what you do, I’d prefer it in because like you said, I’d just rob the kill. It’s like the other guy is holding the player for me to get easy kills.
I’d argue that it’s a fun mechanic that spices up the combat triangle. If someone isnt paying attention to their surroundings and their motion tracker, you should be rewarded by giving them a flashy death, given you do it in a secluded part of the map or are crazy enough to do it out in the open. No one is forcing you to use it.

It’s not that we don’t know it’s optional. I just don’t understand the mindset of someone who sticks there tongue out sideways and says let me get this assassination while getting hit in the back myself then get my kill stole after or getting killed by a rocket launcher the very moment after I get the assassination.

because it’s cool. it looks cool and it’s gratifying to pull off. a lot the reason people play halo is because it’s a satisfying game. the guns feel satisfying, getting a kill is satisfying, having fun kill animations to BM your enemy adds to that
I’ve played every Halo game and I say they should be in every halo game moving forward.

I’ve been playing since CE and I love assassinations. In H5 you could turn them off, so I see no reason why they can’t exist.

It’s worth it. I really don’t care if I die as long as I get that flex in. Some of the animations are really cool.
There are people who want to do assassinations (like myself) and those who could care less. But an enjoyable mechanic for the game shouldn’t be completely removed just to make the game more competitive. I thought having the option to just turn off assassinations for really competitive play is all that is required. I can say from my experience with the first flight that I sorely missed assassinations.
And on the argument that it’s annoying to get a kill stolen or an enemy killing you mid assassination. Yeah, that happens sometimes. But I have watched enemies and teammates -Yoink!- a corpse for longer periods than even the longest assassinations in Halo 5. And getting killed for it.
There will be annoying, silly, funny things that happen with the amazing physics of the game already that the same stuff occurring with assassinations will only add to the sandbox fun.
No need to be so absolutist about it. Don’t see the harm in including assassinations but giving the option to turn them off, or enabling them only in social playlists and not ranked/competitive ones, or both.
I wouldn’t go that far. The ability to end the assassination animation early by pressing Melee, to do a Back Smack would be nice. Can’t count how many times I’ve gone for a Back Smack but press ‘B’ a little too hard and accidentally initiated an assassination.
Its a risk/reward mechanic. It puts you at a disadvantage for wanting to see an epic takedown against another Spartan. Idk how it could possibly be detrimental to Halo’s gameplay because its literally just a choice.
Toggleable assassinations will satisfy both sides I think.
Assassinations are just so satisfying, with its pro and cons. It’s a risky move, but when done right, it pays off with those epic animations. You can even get a second kill with some assassinations like supernova, where you stick the victim with a plasma grenade and then throw them Mario 64 style, potentially into another player and getting a double kill.

You have a recording of that? This I have to see!

Sadly i dont, and some other people say the explosion is cosmetic, but i dont have the assassination so i cant test.
I suppose if someone sticks the person your assassinating while you do that assassination, then that nade goes off while you throw them its possible
If/when they bring back assassinations, i would like 343 to make them useful like that.
