I feel like this was one of the dumbest moves they’ve made already, why would you remove a feature that is beloved by the community, and that has been in every main stream halo game since Reach? I know there are those who don’t really like assassinations as it affects their gameplay, but there’s a reason they added an option to disable it in Halo 5. I honestly think this was a bad move on them, and hopefully they’ll add them sooner than we think.
I genuinely hope they’re one of the first things added, I’ve really enjoyed assassinations since Reach.
I’m super happy that its not in the launch. One of the reasons i’m not playing Halo 5 and went back to Halo 3.
I think it is a bad decision that has been made due to the need to listen to the competitive players. I understand the reasons why they have decided to remove them, but I think the best option would have been to be able to choose between removing them or putting them in game modes.

Or have them disabled at default unless it’s a custom game/turned on by the player.
It sounds like they’re removing it from a competitive stand-point which I understand.
However, instead of removing it completely why not just by default have it turned off?
Or, they already have a plan. He explicitly said “at launch” and they said they do want to reintroduce them in a proper manner, so it only makes me think they will introduce them overtime as content (probably unlockables).
Probably one of the best iterations in Halo Reach, definitely should come back.
I’m just curious… Why is everyone so salty about assassinations?
I played H3 as my staple game, and there were never animations in those. If they did have the option, I’d have them turned off. Competitively, it’s a useless thing to have in the game. Just back smack someone and move tf on. You don’t need some large scale animation that you die in the process of performing.
To each their own I guess.
Yeah I LOVE assassinations. I love them almost as much as I love teabagging people. Nothing better than landing one and nothing worse than getting assasinated.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with competitive players. I’d be careful to shift blame at communities like that. It’s most likely just due to time constraints.
I think a good compromise is have them in casual but not in comp (at least at launch). it’s sort of a way to rub it into the other person’s face like “haha i killed you” and a lot of the halo 5 animations were pretty cool
If it’s not a solid feature at launch, I’d rather not have it at all. Once they can make it work, I’m sure it will be great! Good things come in time.
Yeah I’m a little confused about their stance on this. In my opinion, assassinations have been an iconic part of multiplayer since Reach. They best route would have been to add a feature to toggle them.
I understand adding all these features to prioritize competition, but I think they should make them optional, in order to let people who are in it to have fun - have fun. That way your able to please both sides of the fanbase.
However I’m curious to know what they mean by “exploring ways to make them apply to the sandbox.” ???
I feel like we need a break from Assassinations for a while. they were a cool concept but after H5 I feel like they just got me killed more than anything and having my kill stolen repeatedly took the fun out of them.
I’m okay with their delayed addition. I look forward to their reintroduction at a later date. I noticed they used the term “tool” when describing their reintegration to the sandbox, and wonder if they can be expanded further than just a flourished back smack.
Personally I never liked them. That extra time spent watching a flashy animation was just more time spent vulnerable and left you open to getting ‘yoinked’ by teammates. It slowed you down and could potentially leave you worse off than if you never attempted to melee at all.
Initiating the animation was no less fidgety than the insta kills from games previous. Someone could jump one degree over your head and teleport to your back, and that just didn’t translate well with matchmade servers.
It’s dissapointing for sure, but no deal-breaker for sure.
It’s a shame but I know Assassinations are difficult to animate and to make it not too long or too slow.
Though excited if they add it at a later date!
They aren’t removing Assassinations they just havn’t added them yet. Although I like assassinations, I’ve had MANY kills stolen from people just smacking the guys during my assassination. Although they look cool I think they should be limited to Campaign and offline only. Assassinations take too long and its easy for people to steal kills or kill you during the process. Maybe they should add extra shields during assassinations? idk
yeah its dumb, and the reasoning makes no sense
idk how you can make “assassinations meaningful” either u like them or u dont lol thats it
