The lower aim assist is simply not as conducive for casual play, which is going to make a significant portion of the player base. I, for one, admit that I’m not the best aimer in the world. I’m doing pretty great against the bots with some effort, but sometimes I want to just get home at the end of the day and mindlessly play some matches without putting in any effort. And I wouldn’t mind it staying like this in some playlists, but you won’t retain as many people if it’s a sweat-fest even in social games.

It’s a F2P game and casuals will by far be the majority. The aim assist or optional weapons have to be good enough for the casuals to at least operate a little bit. My GF never played a shooter in her life and could aim on MnK so that argument makes no sense. The learning curve for PC is absurdly lower than controller. This has to be considered and cannot be dismissed so easily.

> I know there was some debate over Halo 5’s aiming, but it was nothing compared to the discussion going on now. I didn’t even know people had a problem with H5’s aiming until I read about it.
I don’t know If other did the same, but I never loudly complained about the Halo 5 aiming. I talked with few friends noticing that something was off, someone said yes, other said no, others didn’t know because they never liked playing online anyway and didn’t care that much. I did some digging online and found that other had issues with that and many came with possible solution, but nothing really “fixed” that. However, it was what it was, I had my 1000 hours on Halo 5 always with that strange feeling while playing and then moved on when I switched to pc gaming, hoping for the better when Infinite news came out and spending my time with the MCC in the meantime.
I guess that many like me just snapped when they saw that Infinite had the same strange feeling, all while the MMC is smooth and a joy to play. I lurked this community for most of the time, but after the Infinite beta i decided to became more vocal because of this very issue.
Again, I understand that some people find it good as it is now. But other people don’t, and that’s something that before halo 5 final release NEVER happened. in the 15 years or so between Halo CE and Halo 5 I never, and i mean NEVER, read or heard anyone saying “meh, the aiming in halo feels strange”. Somebody said it was maybe a little too easy but not enough to close the skill gap between a good player and a bad one, others said that it was perfect as it was, but NOBODY ever said “i’m not gonna play because of that”. There’s no reason to make a part of your players unhappy when you already had something that makes everyone happy.

Halo 5 aiming felt cheap and not rewarding after awhile however it was never that big of an issue. This most likely was because of how fast the game is. After playing Halo Infinite and going back to Halo 5 makes it feels like 5 was a fraud Halo tbh. I never noticed that until the other day.

The old Halo aim assist is not something that makes everyone happy today.
A stronger aim assist had a place when Halo was running on consoles with much lower FPS, and when the input delays and network latencies were worse. But since then the console gaming has come much closer to the PC gaming standards in almost every way, and the player expectations have shifted.
I might not have had much to complain about Halo 3 when it was new because I did not know any better. But if Halo 3 would be a new game today, I would have a whole list of issues with it. Jumping back to Halo 3 multiplayer on MCC few months ago was a jarring experience in terms of controls.

Nobody complained about halo 5 beta aiming system, they changed it, a lot of people complained. That’s the story.
And they are going the same route here.
IT can be aim assist or whatever, aiming feels strange. I played doom etern with a controller, and it felt perfect. Go tell ID Software that doom eternal aiming doesn’t work today.

Did you read what I wrote? I said sometimes, such as when I’m just playing social games casually. That tends to happen quite a lot in Halo because it’s both competitive and social, believe it or not. And no, I don’t really want to try all that hard when I’m playing social, that kind of goes against the entire point of it. Of course I’m going to put in the grind when I’m playing ranked or competitive playlists. But that’s not going to be all the time.
And secondly, aim assist isn’t about holding peoples’ hands. It’s about making the game remotely playable because, and I can’t believe how much I’ve been forced to type this in the last couple days, it is not practical to use two analog sticks to aim with acceptable accuracy all on their own. Before Halo 1 came out, most people were highly skeptical that a first person shooter could do well on console at all because of, you guessed it, playing it on a controller.
You and everyone else also need to stop acting like aim assist makes it so you don’t have to practice to improve your skill at all. Past titles with said aim assist still had a steep learning curve and plenty of practice was needed to improve at every level.

The whole point of this thread is that it’s insufficient. But I guess you’ve run out of anything meaningful to say.

I apologize for my rudeness. I’m not in a great space right now. Reading back on our comments and I feel terrible. I, like most M&KB users haven’t used controller on Infinte so I have no basis. As long as it is fair and balanced it will be okay. At the end of the day we should have input-base matchmaking anyway. I am sorry

Don’t worry about it lol, I’ve seen way worse on these forums and I definitely get too heated myself sometimes, so I also apologize. Agreed that at the end of the day, it staying fair and balanced is most important. And I’m pretty sure it was stated that controller and MKB will be separated, I’ll have to double check on that, but that’s honestly the best decision imo.

Controllers just need to evolve already. It’s insane that in this day, where cross play is becoming STANDARD on every FPS, Microsoft is releasing what is basically the same exact controller on their new console with no Gyro aiming support. No touchpads. Etc.
There really isn’t much to discus outside of elitism. Aim assist was literally designed to make shooters viable on a controller/console. The current level of aim assist just doesn’t get a pass for the average person. This isn’t about appealing to super high level players. You are not the only audience.
A reminder for all of you guys here, to consider all things. Maybe the AA is not the only thing wich is the eventually the problem, but the Clanky/janky feeling of aiming with the Controller.
Some user had a discussion about the “Controller Aim Incident”, the problem is maybe the following:
"Aiming in general is broken, not just aim assist. Deadzones are borked beyond belief, and aiming diagonally is way slower than aiming horizontally and vertically. This is the core of the problem and is why aiming feels terrible. Even if they ramp aim assist way up it’s still going to feel like yoink until they fix the core issues with aiming."
I felt the same way when i was playing, it didn’t matter wich sens or deadzone settings you use, it felt always janky and inconsistent.

TF2 a PC game, and L4D/L4D2 which is a shooter versus melee only enemies.

There was pvp in the last hours of the flight which is what started all the “radar needs to change” threads.

> A reminder for all of you guys here, to consider all things. Maybe the AA is not the only thing wich is the eventually the problem, but the Clanky/janky feeling of aiming with the Controller. Some user had a discussion about the “Controller Aim Incident”, the problem is maybe the following:__“Aiming in general is broken, not just aim assist. Deadzones are borked beyond belief, and aiming diagonally is way slower than aiming horizontally and vertically. This is the core of the problem and is why aiming feels terrible. Even if they ramp aim assist way up it’s still going to feel like yoink until they fix the core issues with aiming.”__I felt the same way when i was playing, it didn’t matter wich sens or deadzone settings you use, it felt always janky and inconsistent.
I don’t think that the level of aim assist is a problem at Halo Infinite at all. It was perfect to me.
There might issues with input lag or zeadzones, or both.
