"No aim assist is fine"

Said the player using mouse and keyboard.

I get it, you guys might not’ve played a game on console, but controller isn’t as precise as mouse and keyboard which is why literally every single shooter on console has some form of aim assist. I’ve heard the argument that it was too strong on MCC. Your problem is that the dwindling player base has shrunken to the point that you’re either dealing with sweats, or full team pre-mades as the game can’t always pair people of similar skill. That’s the reason you’re getting steam rolled. Free to Play is very likely going to make that a thing of the past. If you still don’t like playing against people using controller just turn off cross play instead of expecting the game to be exclusively tailored to PC across all platforms.

I play with controller and it feels great with little aim assist.

I play controller and I think it is fine how it is right now. Even with aim assist you are at a distinct disadvantage against a PC player.

You’ll find that if ranked isn’t separated by inputs then the vast majority of top players will probably be on m&k. That’s just how it is unless aim assist is ridiculous in which case that’s bad for the game in general.

I’ve been alternating between the two inputs quite a bit the last couple of days and I can honestly say this might be the most balanced the two inputs have ever been. Is aim assist lower than other Halos? Yes, but it’s still a pretty big advantage in close-mid range and in 1v1 duels. The sidekick is really strong with a controller but pretty difficult with a MnK. On the flip side, ranged weapons like the Sniper and Skewer are obviously much better with MnK, and throwing well placed grenades is easier. The BR is very well balanced for both inputs.

Controller is fine for me.

We haven’t even been able to play against each other yet. Way too soon for input balance opinions.

It’s great that a bunch of you think it’s fine on controller right now, but it won’t be for a lot of people. The lower aim assist is simply not as conducive for casual play, which is going to make a significant portion of the player base. I, for one, admit that I’m not the best aimer in the world. I’m doing pretty great against the bots with some effort, but sometimes I want to just get home at the end of the day and mindlessly play some matches without putting in any effort. And I wouldn’t mind it staying like this in some playlists, but you won’t retain as many people if it’s a sweat-fest even in social games.

H5 was literally a sweat fest in every game. That’s not good for the long term population of a game, free or not

Yeah, I’m definitely hoping for a return to the traditional generous aim assist of prior Halos.
I feel like I’m fighting more against my crosshair than the enemy.
With the old Halos I feel in control of my weapon and can concentrate on strafing/movement whilst aiming precisely where I want to, whereas in Infinite shooting feels so awkward and tiring. Wrestling the crosshair clumsily around just doesn’t feel anything like the tight, quick and accurate style of aiming in the old games.

The competitive/pro crowd may be more likely to enjoy the new lower aim assist for skill gap/ceiling reasons but I’d just ask them to think about the older games before they make their mind up completely.
Games like Halo 2 which had very heavy aim assist but still had a huge skill gap and massive competitive scene whilst also feeling fun and accessible to new/casual players.

To be honest the MCC legit almost has no precision weapon skill gap they are all so ez to use once you get to a certain skill level it just boils down to positioning rather than individual gunskill which makes the game stale. Some guns might need reworking for controller players but overall it’s fine.

Controller player here who likes the current setup.

It’s fine when you’re playing against bots. The bots are super forgiving right now, and it’s giving many players a false sense of skill. The attitude will likely change when crossplay PvP releases, and you don’t get the luxury of missing 2 or 3 shots and still getting the kill.

When you start matching up against M&K players then you’ll actually realize how many of your shots are missing, and the difficulty in correcting your aim while in a gunfight with someone using a more precise input device.

I dont have an issue with the low amount of aim assist. If everyone was on a level playing field with the same input device, it would be fine. I do have an issue with being forced to play against M&K players while at a significant disadvantage.

Controller aim on Series X has been fine for me, took a few hours to get used to but now I find it easy to get headshots, I still suck with the sniper though.

I see this kind of thinking all the time on this forum, and I understand it, I used to think the same way until I tried MnK games for the first time last year, but it can’t be further from the truth. The majority of MnK players suck. Like actually suck. Like 50% of Valorants playerbase is in Iron or Bronze, have you ever seen an Iron or Bronze player play? It’s terrible, they can barely stay on a target for more than half a second. I don’t have number to back it up but I’d be willing to bet the bottom 50% controller players are “better” than the bottom 50% MnK.

I also understand OPs point for this post. I stopped playing Rainbow Six Siege on Xbox because I couldn’t aim without aim assist, and didn’t start playing it again until I got my PC. But those casual players he’s talking about? They also exist on MnK, and I think is important that Infinite is also balanced for them (which I think they currently are at)

I play on controller and like the current aim assist.

halo infinite only has slightly less aim assist than apex legends and apex legends has an incredibly huge casual player base. the reason halo is always lacking a huge player base is because it’s too easy. people don’t want to turn their brains off and let aim assist do everything, they want a bit of a challenge. now that halo is slightly more of a challenge, the majority will come.

I am different from most. I play controller but actually want the option to turn it off. I hate Aim Assist. It completely messes up my aim. I have played games like Siege for so long, using Aim Assist makes the game harder to play.

I mean, if other console players want it, fine. But I find it harder to compete against M&K with it than without it. When it is off, I tend to be as good as an average M&K user. I have clips proving it on my PC.

20 years of controller use has made Aim Assist obsolete for me. And a waste of my time.

I’m playing on pc with Xbox controller and i’m feeling great. I’m scoring always in first position in positive K/D

How can you say that you’re on a distinct disadvantage when pvp isnt even available yet ?
Aim assist will always be the superior option when it comes to competition, so there is no way that the pros will suddenly switch to kbm. Before anything like that would come into consideration, they will just increase the aim assist.

I’ve been using a controller on PC and I actually like the amount of aim assist that’s there currently.
