I figured I’d post here for clarification before jumping to conclusions, but according to the description for the Master Chief Collection, the “game disc” is required for access to the beta. Now this could be simply stating that all you need is access to the game, since the beta will likely launch from the in-game menu. But I just want to know for certain before I jump on my digital version of the game.

No you do not need it, on Halo MCC on the Xbox One go over to the bundles tab and click the bundle. That comes with the Halo 5 beta, Nightfall and is same price. The main Halo MCC page is meant for after release sales.
