No 4 Player Split Screen in Halo 5 is gamebreaking

Everyone who played halo’s 1-3 should know that Halo started as a LAN game where you connect 2 Xbox’s for amazing 8 player LAN parties. I still have them for Halo 3 today! But with Josh Holmes’s recent announcement of Halo 5 only having 2 player split screen, I am fearing that Halo can lose much of its fanbase. Halo has always been about awesome local games and messing around with 4 friends on customs. There are really no other games that have 4 player spit screen today, and COD is going down the same road with Ghosts and AW. To me, this feature is as important as something like Forge is to many. I know that its “hard to run 4 games together” but Halo 3 could do it just fine on a console with about half a gig of RAM! I’m sure 343 could lower the resolution or something to allow this support. I have high hopes that 343 can change this, as I know that they do listen. The question is, will consoles lose one of there biggest advantages over PC gaming with local support, or will they regain prominence?

Call of Duty 2 didn’t even have co-op.

Anyway, I think it’s just the beta. I’m sure they’ll sort it for the final…at least I hope so, since, as you said, it’s been an important part of Halo since the beginning.

Hosting 4 players online with 1080p 60fps is kind of hard. People did complain about the framerate lowering in MCC. I used to play Halo with 4 players, and I kind of wish Halo 5 had support for 4 players, but my brothers have moved to CoD. I’m so confused on if it’s important or not…

We need to do something about this now

This is next gen people. If the OG xbox and 360 could run 4 player split screen online, then the xone should be able to do it even better. 343 listen to the people.

4 Player split screen is singlehandedly the greatest thing that Halo had to offer in my opinion. I have a few friends who are Halo fans but play 99% of their games on PC or Playstation and don’t want to shell out another $600 on a console just for one game, (yes consoles and stuff are expensive here in NZ), so they come jam with me to get their Halo fix. Now it’s not possible and suddenly some of the most fun times I have ever had in gaming will just disappear.

Disappointing 343.

No, it doesn’t have to disappear! Let ur voice be heard. Speak out for 4 player split screen.

Never posted here, just always lurked, but this announcement got me to finally sign in and say something. No 4 player splitscreen is a huge mistake. It’s always been part of the Halo franchise, and part of the reason Halo was such a great series. I loved split screen with a few friends, and Halo seemed to be the last series that prioritized it with multiplayer. This is a terrible decision, and I hope they listen to their fans and change their mind.

People asking for it dont understand the consequences and are the same people who would come make threads like “WTF 343 4PLAYER COOP IS BROKEN 15FPS WTF??? YOU -Yoinked!- UP” because it didnt perform well

no graphics lowering.

but I agree with you, 4 players split screen would be awesome

Can’t they Work on it Like RIGHT NOW

Xbox one’s a much better console than 350 isn’t it?

I don’t really play 4 player split screen now that online is the focus for most games. It is a bit of a shame but is it really such a game breaker?

As long as I can play 4 player co op campaign with my friends online I don’t really mind.

Yes, it is a gamebreaker to me. Hopefully this isn’t a cash grab where you have to have FOUR Xbox One’s for 8 player LAN instead of TWO.

4-player split screen is not gamebreaking, but gamefixing. You get better frame rate and quality that way.

There are plenty of players who are annoyed by the frame drops in 4 player split screen, but at the same enjoy the energy and fun of playing local with friends. I am positive that there are plenty of console gamers who do not care entirely about graphics and would accept a lower resolution and frame rate Halo 5 when playing 4 player split, but a 1080p 60 fps when playing 1 or two player. The Wii U is a primary example of this, people play it for Smash not for the graphics, but for the fun. Like I said before, console gamers cannot lose this core aspect because they can never compete with PC in terms of graphics (time-frozen so to speak), so they must turn to their true advantage: local play. My fondest memory is 4 player Halo 4 online with Xbox original on a 10 inch analogue TV. That is Halo to me.

Seriously small drops in frame rates doesn’t bother us in 4P-SS. But those like on H4’s Shatter is.

Actually,

Split screen being in the game is game breaking.

4 player split screen is near and dear to my heart and I will legitimately be upset if they remove it in Halo 5. 343 is going to be hearing a lot of me begging on Twitter from now until release day…

That’s why they have to work on it. People don’t want unplayable mess but fully functional thing. If 343i is going to treat split screen feature as some less important stuff, that’s included in last minute just so people can have it and shut up, then it’ll not work well at all for anyone.

Removing 4 player split screen is like if doctor instead of healing someone’s kid infected that kid with flu: “Oh, that kid is feeling much worse, I think now we have no choice but euthanasia” - expecting that everyone’s ok with that is nonsense.

That’s the most wrong thing I’ve ever read on this forum.
