I was hoping for a revised 1-50 myself, personally, and whether or not we can take Frankie’s comment as confirmation or not is besides the point. Yes, these systems did Competitive matchmaking rather well - but they still had the flaws. Boosting, De-Ranking, Account Trading, etcetera.
Contrary to a lot of what I read, 1-50 is NOT the only way a Competitive ranking system can ever work, and a lack of 1-50 does NOT translate as “There will be no Competitive ranking/matchmaking”. Yes, it worked well. But it wasn’t perfect and who is to say 343i won’t devise a better system? Who is to say that a new system can’t work better? One cannot truly say that nothing can ever do Competitive ranking/matchmaking better than 1-50. I can’t think of a better system but then, I really know nothing about anything and I’m not the one hired to make these decisions.
Please, don’t misconstrue this as me saying “1-50 was bad” or “Reach’s was better”. I much preferred 1-50 to Reach’s purely progressive ranks because for the most part, it did a much better job of putting me into fair games. Maybe people aren’t directly saying “1-50 is the only way it can work” but when people say “There’s no 1-50, I hope no Competitive players buy the game” that, to me, translates as “No 1-50 means we’re getting a full-on Casual ranking system”. All I’m saying is, don’t think that nothing can possibly work as well as 1-50.
The only reason 1-50 did a better job, was due to stricter true skill, not a better system. Bungie wanted to lower the MM times since they back in Halo 3 could be awful, and decided to scrap true skill to make it faster. I got to say, Arena is a better system then 1-50, if true skill were working, but neither is perfect.
I agree with you, and I bet Halo 4 will have some kind of competitive ranking system. However, a majority of the whiners/complainers don’t care for a competitive ranking system, they want the good old 1-50, and many seems to prefer it as it was, flawed and easy to manipulate.
I don’t, if Halo 4 is to have a ranking system at all anywhere, it’s to be a new and good one, that doesn’t encourage boosting or bragging, but is used to get fair games and encourage people to play better.
Ah, rather than saying “1-50 was better than Reach’s ranking” I should have said “Halo 2/3’s ranking was better than Reach’s”. TBH that’s kind of what I was trying to say anyway.
The idea with Reachs “ranking” is that you play the game for the love of the game, not a stupid number which too many people begged borrowed stole and cheated for. I dont disagree with this premise.
If you wanted skill indicators, there was arena. But people rejected it because ITS NOT FIDDY.
You can’t have a competitive ranking system unless it is based on your skill, which will create all the problems of the 1-50 ranking system, as it isn’t the specific 1-50 that creates the problem, it is the fact that it is based on skill.

Disagree. I never match people my skill level half my time in any playlist(MLG it could be Pros or scrubs). I should not match a team of guest but I actually do… A lot. If you say there is a true skill system… Its a very very loose one. To the point its actually worthless.

This guy speaks the truth. Reach’s matchmaking works much like Halo 3’s social does, where it may group together an 18, 34, 27 and a 46 and the other will have a 15, 32, 29 and a 48. It does not organize a group of tightly grouped skills to play against each other.

Further proof that this game’s ranking is flawed. If players were matched against similarly skilled players, most players’ KD’s should be closer to 1.00.

Then why do I match players who are playing their 3rd game ever of Reach when I’m searching in playlists where I’ve played 800 games and have a 90%+ win percentage?

The social bunch don’t seem to understand that competitive players want a challenge, and therefore earn our rank through SKILL, rather than our spare time.

No, Reaches ranking system is made up of one of two things.
This thread is a perfect dossier for why straight up visible truekill is gone and never coming back. Too many people only see it as a means to look down upon others. Its a huge negative modifier on the social aspect of the community. It is used not for personal achievement, but to cause grief and strife amongst others.

The 1-50 system kept scrubs out of my matches. Now in reach I am stuck 4 shotting newbs who are trying to AR me from 50 from feet away every single match

No one here is doing that. Maybe you should read te thread again. Reach’s “invisible trueskill” doesn’t work. Almost every game played is one-sided, and that’s not fun for either side. If they want to actually use trueskill but hide it then fine, but if it’s as broken as Reach’s then I don’t see how people can enjoy it.

You didn’t prove any point. As a matter of fact, you didn’t even respond to our arguments of trueskill not existing in Reach. If you want to debate you have to actually address the opposition, not just throw your own points on the table and call it a day.
