Nitrus Oxide & Warthogs

I’ve always thought it would be useful to have a boost ability in the warthog, to get out of a tight spot or make a long jump, something like that. Maybe it’s on a cool down. It would be a nice way to add some tactical options for dedicated drivers. It seems like it could be cool. Or is this just a ridiculous idea?

Sounds like it’d be cool for campaign & custom games, but I probably wouldn’t add it into matchmaking, as it stands the warthog is reasonably balanced in the sandbox & to mess with that is only asking for chaos.

This idea sounds like it would be really cool on the mongoose, add a lot of fun, and add a layer of missing skill to mongoose runs in CTF and Assault…

Honestly I’d rather keep the boost ability a covenant thing, It works better on them as well as a ‘mini sprint’ as it also disables weapons (except the wraith’s i think?).

That said, from a realism point of view, would nitrus even work on a warthog? It runs on hydrogen fuel cells last I checked.

I have to say I’d leave it up to the lore masters to figure that last question out haha. The same ones who give it the audio of a diesel engine!

And while yes, it’s probably a better unique feature of Covenant vehicles, as a custom game option it would be awesome to spice race games up etc. Many people prefer wheels in those game types because they handle a lot differently than the floaty mechanics Covenant ships. So I think there is a unique opportunity in equipping a UNSC vehicle like a warthog or mongoose with a boost capability. It would handle completely differently.

Not sure about this. I guess a new Warthog ‘choice’ with it would be nice but we’re struggling enough as it is to get 343i to bring back the classic warthog sounds that has been missing since the original trilogy so not sure how this would affect the sound of the ‘modern’ warthog.

Lore wise, I find it hard to believe a military vehicle would be equipped with NOs. They are going to be sturdy, simple and reliable. A separate fuel type to keep around just for the occasional speed boost would not be economical.

Gameplay wise, I think the warthog is generally pretty well balanced (except for the rocket hog which is just a death trap). Amateurs hog users are relatively easy to take down, boost would probably mean they get themselves into more trouble. Occasionally you get a driver and gunner that are a force to be reckoned with, boost for these experts makes nailing that 'nade or laser nearly impossible.

Custom games? The more options the merrier. Maybe allow vehicles to be affected by a speed boost pick up.

Woah! Speed boost, over shield, and invisibility for vehicles? Yes please! (Again, custom or mini-games only)

Looking forward to a spin-off titled “Fast & Furious: One Final Warthog Run.”

I love this, and I completely agree with all points.

maybe there could be a hannibal warthog with this ability, like halo 5, but it didnt have a hannibal warthog

Well… It runs on a hydrogen engine so Nitrous Oxide wouldn’t work I don’t think.

But sure, a boost would be very cool and nice.

This sounds cool but it should be for the mongoose, not the warthog.

Yeah potentially this feature is only available when using the Civilian Warthog variant in forge?
