I just wanted to throw out some ideas for Spartan Ops because I feel it could be better than FireFight with some tweaks. I’m a HUGE CoOp fan but Halo 4 is lacking in this department.
-Personal Ordnance. Not a fan of this feature in MP but it seems it would fit CoOp. Kind of like Halo’s version of loot.
-Pass/Fail missions and timed missions. This could offer a real challenge. I wont say take away unlimited lives but give less XP for failed missions.
-Campaign levels. Originally I thought Spartan Ops was going to be a true CoOp campaign. Instead we ended up running back and forth on huge maps. I keep thinking how epic Long Night Of Solace(Reach) is on CoOp. I’d like to see missions where you travel from Point A to B similar to traditional Halo story missions.
Dont get me wrong, Spartan Ops is a great original concept in terms of presentation. I just hope 343 doesnt abandon this idea instead of building on it.
Personal ordinance might be good!
And let us level up to equip more tactical packages and support upgrades.
So much during season 1 I would wish I could call in personal ordnance. Whether I was being swarmed by 50,000 Knights or all available vehicles were destroyed, a rocket launcher here and there would have been perfect! (Spartan Ops really wasn’t balanced for solo play)
Also there were a few pass/fail missions in season 1 although I think they were all in the second half. The one where you have to protect the Phantom comes to mind right away.
What about story for season 2? What would people like to see? I think it would pretty amazing if Crimson/Majestic and Infinity went out looking for the Ewoks to help defeat the Covenant remnant and build up an army in case the Didact returns (everyone is expecting it right?). This is all provided they can secure the Ewok licensing from Disney. But man, those Ewoks…they destroy Death Stars!

One interesting thing I found out about Spartan Ops is that if you leave the mission incomplete for about an hour and 45 minutes, it automatically ends(at least in MM).
Not exactly the same, but still a fun fact.
I agree. The original trailer for Spartan Ops before Halo: 4 was released showd us Spartan IVs being briefed while in a Pelican…Only to be edited for the sake of a campaign mission. Seeing that trailer made me think, “Wow, this really is a campaign with other players, and in a way that’s similar to the campaign. This’ll be great!” I wasn’t too disappointed, as I love Spartan OPS and everything about it, but there is so much more to be done.
Everything you mentioned should be added to this wonderful addition to the Halo franchise. Along with drop-in and drop-out options. This way, even if you’re halfway into a mission on Legendary Co-op, and your partner lags out, they can get back in when you invite them, and you’ll get the credit for completion on Legendary co-op. (Basically make a drop-in drop-out option with friends.)
Another thing that should be added: Reasonable locations for ammo/other scenery. In some of the missions, like at a Covenant outpost, there are ammo caches for some random reason that had nothing to do with the objective, or reason that you’re there. I don’t think you’re gonna find a box of ammo at a place where the Covenant are, and the UNSC has never been.
Another: Usage of skulls! The Skulls back in Firefight made the game interesting. Id’ be great to hear some Marines/Spartan IVs calling different phrases during the mission with the IWHBYD skull.
Two suggestions:
Personal ordnance and visible scoring.
