This is a serious issue that is plaguing the game right now, The game is unplayable in co-op because of this. If you aren’t the host, there is a visible almost full second delay in controls (everything except for aiming). this is NOT a individual connection issue, this is an issue with the game. I would love to play this game with my friends, but we all agree that we will wait for a patch before even attempting it. not to mention the co-op crashing issue almost every level.
This need to be addressed!!!
I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for this one mate, online co-op in Halo titles has always been this way due to the synchronous nature of Bungie’s co-op network code (pvp is asynchronous). I was disappointed 343 used the same engine for Halo 4 and I’m really hoping 5 will be different.
Destiny’s network code is asynchronous by the way so at least Bungie have learnt their lesson.
well from launch, halo 3 and 4 for me did not have these issues, and i played those through with 3 friends, Halo CEA for the 360 had this issue at launch and is STILL in the game. It is now affecting all of the games in the MCC including halo 3 and 4, and while i have not personally tried it, i have heard from multiple people that halo 4 actually has it the worst.
Yes this should have top priority after the matchmaking issues.
This lag is even worse if you want to play with players oversea. Not only is it lagging it gets horrible frame drops for the whole party. When we try to play everyone gets around 5fps for the whole game, even the cut scenes are in slow motion.
Well hopefully they can at least improve it for you but it will never be as good as modern co-op that uses better netcode.
The other thing about using synchronous code is that if one person in the party is lagging it affects everyone.
You will never get it to work well with overseas connections either, even if everyone has good connections latency will kill it.
Sure I know there will be lag with oversea connections but it’s not lagging it’s dropping frames! With 1 oversea connection the whole party gets constant frame drops so that the whole game is in slow motion at around 5fps and that even in cut scenes, this should not be happening from a bad connection.
Sadly it does with synchronous net code
I believe this is absolutely true, OP.
And I have to point out that this is not like it has been in “all Halo titles’ co-op campaigns” and it does have nothing to do with people playing “overseas”.
It is a kind of “input lag”, not a kind of lag that has to do with “bad connection”. There have been even reports of people having the same problem if they play in the very same room with two XBOX ONEs!
Co-op has an input lag that renders it unplayable. It is a problem solely on the side of the MCC and it needs to be fixed asap.
However, I have already made a thread about a possible solution:

Im just gonna bump this up, because this at least needs to be addressed by 343, it was ignored in the 360 CEA, it CANNOT be ignored here.
Honestly, this is the MAIN thing that I and many other people want. lots of us dont care too much for MM and just want a game that we can play with friends online, and halo’s Co-op has always been one of the most fun experiences. Give us a working co-op (and achievements/playlists) and you can take however long you want to fix the MM, at least we will have something to do in the meantime, i mean 3/4 of the achievements in this game are story related, and i can’t even attempt them because co-op is unplayable and the achievements wont even unlock half the time, not to mention playlists skipping levels so you actually CANNOT get the achievements.

Completly supporting your point on this Robert.
THIS IS A CAMPAIGN SERIES ! We don’t care about online match making. Halo 4 is there for that…
We don’t pay for a botched, poorly done laggy stacked campaigns game. All the game series content gravitates arround the story campaign. Rewards, achievements.
Use the money WE gave you to fix that. We were all expecting remastered PLAYABLE co-op games. This is an insulting mascarade towards Bungie.
Bumping again, I would like to at least see something from 343 at least acknowledging that there are still numerous issues with the campaign section of the game, which is the primary reason that myself and many others actually purchased the game. All i’m hearing is “MM is going to be patched. MM is being worked on. MM is getting a new playlist”. I hate to sound like a broken record but input lag is one of the worst offenders as well as achievements not working and playlists bugging out.
It’s not a glitch. It’s not going to be fixed. There’s been input lag in online co-op since its debut in Halo 3. If you want to minimize the lag, you need to play with someone that lives nearby. Playing with people overseas or on the opposite coast will obviously cause more delay…

As ive said before, I played halo 3 and 4 on launch with groups of 4 friends with absolutely zero input lag. and not only is in in halo CEA on the MCC, its in ALL of them now on the MCC. It does not help whether you are playing with someone over seas, in the same country, in the same city, or even in the same household. and for arguments sake, even IF this were to be a pre existing issue, It should have been fixed when putting the games in the collection, if we are living in the realm of 50gig installs for games and almost 2gig patches, i dont think it should be too hard for them to fix this issue.
Edit: I just want to add that if 343 can fix this issue as well as the playlist/achievement issues, All will be forgiven in my books, especially since i KNOW that they will have the MM up and running eventually. Its just starting to scare me that there is little to no mention of the campaign issues what so ever.
when i play halo 3 with my friend (who is one town over), i have a dramatic drop in framerate to near zero. He doesnt experience any, and it is not a connection issue because we both got through halo 1 and 2 with no lag whatsoever. Im hoping this is fixed because we want to play through 3 and 4 on legendary together.
I suffered this on the Halo:CE Anniversary on the 360 and happens again on the Xbox One. The unique solution I found by then was playing with a friend on LAN, at my home but that’s not “the power of the cloud” or so…
This needs to be fixed, ASAP.
This at least needs to be addressed!
