Next Level up from Gold

Hey, everyone! As we all know, or probably all know, there currently exist two versions of the Xbox Live experience. These include Silver membership and Gold membership. I was thinking of a 3rd version above Gold membership, we can call it Platinum, Diamond, or anything else it doesn’t matter. My question to you is what should a “Platinum” membership include? My first thoughts include a built in subscription to Netflix’s streaming service, games, movie rentals, DLC, and early access for any number of thing. What combination of these things and/or others would be appropriate and for what price would it be reasonable to charge for said benefits. Thanks for reading!

Well, in all honesty, I really think Gold and Silver are enough.

While it may seem like a good decision for MS to make some more cash, they still have to be wary of the competition: Sony and PlayStation, who offer they’re online services and everything like that for free.

Gold is understandable. It’s almost an essessinal for the Xbox experience. But I really don’t want to be bugged constanty with all those dashboard adds and probably emails about ‘UPGRADE TO PLATINUM TODAY!’ ‘SEE WHAT YOU’VE BEEN MISSING OUT ON!’, and yadda yadda yadda.
And a lot of the things you mentioned, I don’t use, don’t us enough, or only want one or two of. If Gold is like what, 60 bucks a year, I don’t want to be paying some insane amount just so I can play that new Halo map pack a day earlier. I’m already paying from new games and other IRL crap. The Netflix thing is a good idea, yet I don’t even use Netflix (yes, I’m really not from this planet).

While some people may (and probably will) disagree with me, the only one who matters ina situation like this is the customer, me, and I’m not buying into it.

I see no reason to pay a premium price for benefits that Microsoft could just as easily give to Gold members. If “Platinum” doesn’t exist, all of its potential benefits go straight to Gold members.

Take for example two-week early DLC. If the DLC is available for Platinum members, then it’s obviously finished with development and marketing, but a Gold member now has to wait two weeks longer to get it than he would have before. How is this beneficial?

I agree with ComicBeast1212

Also, Things like Streaming Movies and Netflix is different per country.

So the US maybe a candidate for and new version of Xbox Live but the rest is using other release dates, regions and Services.

So basically pay more money for early access?

Why would I do that? I’m patient.

Pay double for Platinum, make everything free.
Then I’d pay for it. Free DLC, free indie games, the works.
It’d probably end up terrible for somebody though.

I think maybe my message didn’t come through to everybody. I was kinda looking for input as to what would make a 3rd level of Live service viable to you! So, what would need to be included with the membership in order to earn your purchase, and what price would you realistically pay for the features you include. As far as the Gold service goes, nothing would change from it’s current state, the next level up would be essentially a packaged deal of several items for a lower price. Microsoft already currently gives out quite a bit for the 60 dollar gold subscription and I don’t think that they can afford to give much else out for free on that membership. The third level is intended for entertainment lovers to receive a discount. It is not just paying for early access to DLC and things like that, I meant essentially be part of development processes such as what would normally be closed betas.

Why are you even looking for a third level of service? What benefit is there since you want to move things from Gold to another tier?

What’s wrong with the current system?

> I was kinda looking for input as to what would make a 3rd level of Live service viable to you!

Gold has everything that I could want to buy. The only thing they could possibly do to make me move up to a higher “level” of service would be to take away existing benefits I already have (for examples, making me wait for DLC or pulling a Netflix by splitting services and raising prices).

I really don’t think we’ll see a third tier anytime soon because Microsoft is actually moving away from a third tier. They are moving towards giving customers more for less instead of less for more. On the Xbox 360, only Gold members can use most entertainment apps, but on the Xbox One, even Silver members can. If one gamertag on an Xbox One has Gold, the entire console gets Gold benefits. With this shift towards giving Silver members more benefits, any potential “Platinum” member benefits would likely be given to Gold members instead.

Where did I suggest taking things from gold and moving them up?? I am an Xbox live user who utilizes several aspects of the live service (Netflix, digital games, movies, etc.) I would enjoy a more expensive plan for Xbox live that would give me an overall less expensive combined price so that I can enjoy all of these things for less money. I thought that vouchers for digital games and movies might be something that sounded interesting to people who spend a lot of time online but I guess I was just wrong. Definitely didn’t mean for anybody to think I wanted to strip Gold of it’s current features. That would be bad.

Also, wasn’t pointing to you directly snicker just used ur quote as an example.

This is incorrect. Just before E3, an update was released for the Xbox One AND Xbox 360 to remove paywalls for apps.

This doesn’t really make sense, what Netflix did was separate the two services it offered from one price to two individual prices, which together totaled more than before the split. My idea is to have more benefits for more money, although less money than if you purchased all the different services separately.

Let’s not have that. Bad idea probably. It probably would negatively impact gold and it wouldn’t be nice to have this g’s divided more I think.

I’d like to see a Platinum level where you get reserved regional server resources e.g. a virtual private server with set performance in your region that you and your friends can use. Things like coop campaign or matchmaking locked servers etc.

It could be fairly redundant given the current Azure setup but more a guaranteed performance and regional locale for your gaming preferences. I’d pay for it if it provided another level beyond gold for my friends and I.

This.

I think a better idea would be to look to what Microsoft could do with a Bronze service, while expanding on Silver and Gold.

What’s the point in this, really?, at all?

Silver and Gold work fine, could do with a little price cut maybe.

Nope. You now need Playstation Plus to play online, which has a monthly fee. Console gaming is going to end itself at this rate.

i think america is already getting enough

This is quite an old topic, not ideal to bring threads back from the dead unless you can add something to it
