I came up with the idea of the next game coming a bit before halo 5. Everybody keeps saying they really need to just push on with the story but I really think they need to hit the breaks for a bit. Before halo 4 even released I knew they were going to go too fast and that’s what happened the Didactic had no explanation, the campaign was downright confusing took me months just to understand it all, the different factions of the original Covenant were never brought into full detail so Jul seemed like a random Covie, and above all things the forruners were essentially thrown at us expecting we already knew all this when we didn’t. Think back to CE where nobody knew who the forruners really were all they knew was that were very advanced. All that ominous build up…for a knight to jump on us. They acted as if we knew these things from the start. It’s like they made a whole different race with the same name, being forruner. I really want to see a Pre Halo 5 release if not next, then after Halo 6 releases. Maybe Jul or Locke will have something memorable.
It would be cool, along the lines of Halo Reach, but to me, it isn’t something 343 would do. They want you to engage in lore outside of the games, play Spartan Ops, read the books, comics, listen to Hunt the Truth, etc., rather than actually make a game outside of H4 or H5. Halo Wars 2 is kind of along those lines, but I feel like there was a precedent with Halo Wars that they just followed.
They definitely need to get better at explaining character backgrounds and introducing them right. I’d wager most of the people who played H5 haven’t read a single Halo book so when Blue Team came up on screen it should have been cool but for most people it was “who are these random people talking to Chief like they know eachother?” It’s like 343i just assumes we know who everyone is and don’t need an introduction or back ground. Without those it’s easy to not care about said characters.

That’s another thing they constantly relie on their awful outside Lore to understand halo 5, things like halo nightfall, forward unto Dawn, Halo Bloodline, or Halo escalation. They need to stop making it so where you have to watch these movies or read these books for us to understand the game and make it where you feel rewarded for knowing an extra chunk of lore to enhance the game experience. Clearly they didn’t get the first time around or it’s a cash grab.
