I hear that halo will be the last mainline halo game for the next decade. But surely its not the only halo game for the next. I can see halo infinite will have lots of ads on campaigns and story for the next decade but there must be other games that 343 have planned for
After reading a recent report that Halo Infinite is not a fully open world game I’m thinking 10 years of Destiny esque expansions, instead of more games. It worries me too. How long will they support day one, S and X consoles. I’m good, I have an X and will upgrade to series X, but I know many that are not upgrading because they don’t need to.

There are quite a few reports that state Halo Infinite is a 10 year project, and it’s meant to be the last stand alone game for a decade. Here’s just one. It clearly states 343i confirm you should not expect a Halo 7 or Infinite 2.0 to follow. Halo ala Destiny inbound imho.

I see. Thank you for sharing that article. I wonder what exactly they mean by Halo Infinite being “a platform for further full-fledged Halo experiences of their own”
Seems to me like a full-fledged Halo experience of its own would be Halo 7, but I guess we’ll see.

^This!
It was Chris Lee himself that confirmed it. I can’t check the msn link for myself right now, but you can find the whole interview on Gamesradar as well as other places.
They claim it’s not going to be like Destiny, but it sounds a hell lot like it. Imho it will be UI based hub for multiple campaigns, firefight, time exclusive modes and a unified multiplayer experience. Think R6S with MCC style campaigns basically! Which I would be fine with if not for the lackluster reveal with a gameplay aching way to much towards Far Cry! Also Slipspace presumably being a disaster of engine with spaghetti coding and out of date tech… We’ll see, but 343i lost my trust years ago already and all those negative news are just more stones on a grave. SIGH!

Yeah. I agree, it’s all gone backwards for me. I was hyped after the 2018 engine demo, then after the Discover Hope trailer I had doubts, despite being a well polished video I was not convinced and stated something like that, basically I smelled a rat, don’t know why. Then the poor visuals with the campaign gameplay reveal. The gameplay looked fun though.
Now these reports of 10 year plans, Destiny esque drops, f2p multiplayer etc. I actually hate writing this but I have serious doubts again. I also can’t stop thinking about other games that bombed and comparing because of similarities. If I want to play the likes of Destiny and Anthem I can, but I don’t want to play them with a Halo skin, if that makes sense.
It appears to me that they created Infinite based on their experience with the MCC. Having all the campaigns in one place. So I’m not sure if, after infinite’s main campaign that we’ll get smaller DLC campaigns every so often or if, say in 2022 or 2023 we get “Halo 7” or if it’ll be a bit of both.
While I wouldn’t mind regular campaign expansions I’d prefer they release “ Halo 7” In 2-3 years time with substantial multiplayer support between releases.
of course there will you have Spartan Assault, Halo wars 3 & probably spin off games like reach or ODST and maybe even another Arcade game.
I am personally fine with it. I mean, we have 6 different multiplayers to choose from not including Infinite. Not to mention ODST Firefight coming soon to MCC. Halo Wars 3 is no doubt in development. If the next mainline Halo game has a decent campaign + multiplayer and customs, then I am in.

Creative Assembly already presented concept arts to MS and 343i in late 2017 for Halo Wars 3 with a new focus on space battles, but it got rejected. Now they have their hands full with Total War and their spin offs. If HW3 happens - and I doubt it considering the poor sales numbers - it will be far off in the future sadly.

This is kinda what I took from it. They said they didn’t want Halo games “competing” with each other. And they learned with the MCC that having all the games in the same UI was a nice way to keep everyone playing together because even if they’re playing different Halos, they’re all playing the same game: the MCC.
So I took that to mean well into the future, we can open up Infinite and have multiple campaigns and multiplayers to choose from in the same way the MCC has.
So, don’t think of Infinite turning out like Destiny, think of it turning out like the current MCC, but with future Halo games.
I am still hoping that 343 Industries will move forward with the Halo spin off video games after Halo Infinite coming out on Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. At the same time, I think we will most likely see DLC campaign levels in Halo Infinite. It will be great to see a Halo Infinite DLC campaign levels where Arbiter and ODST Troopers are the main characters.
I am totally fine with it being the main platform for Halo for the next 10 years where they add on different camapign stories, but I’d still prefer for there to be side games that maybe don’t have MP or limited MP simialr to ODST so it doesn’t take away from Infinite’s MP, or perhaps in the side games they are large expansive stories with multiple stories and plenty of things to do and ways to approach it so there is no need for a MP. As an example, how about a Headhunter spin-off game (that has nothing to do with Infinite or the different story arcs) where you get to play as one 2 man Headhunter team (which a friend can join or just have an AI) and there are multiple stories of this Heahunter team or different Headhunter teams. That way Halo Infinite doesn’t take up too much space on my hard drive and the Halo Universe is expanded via game stories.

I am one of those, and I know others. MS burned us this Gen. Too much push for stuff that nobody wanted, and then all the other console re-releases. No one I know personally trusts Xbox with what they say about the Series X, and are going to wait a min of 2 years to see what happens before dropping 4-500 for something that could re release in 3-4 years.
I fully share your concern about the Destiny aspect of the way the game is going with the 10 year plan, and the F2P MP. I am waiting for more info, but the Game Pass push, the release on the older systems and the gameplay demo, gives me “If you can see it, you can go there.” vibes. They are overhyping something that won’t match the hype at release, and they are hoping that locking in enough game pass people with the Infinite Demo, that they can ride out a rocky release.
How can anyone say they are fine with them doing this whole 10-year plan with infinite when they haven’t even played it yet!!! You might not even like it, you don’t know.
Personally I think this whole 10-year plan is utterly stupid. Are they going to release extra stories aka DLC for all the systems over the 10 years? Or is it going to be for Xbox One for the first two years and then after that it will be series x only? One would think so because otherwise you’re holding back series x and your DLC won’t look that good. If I have a next generation system AKA series x I expect next generation graphics sound everything and this whole let’s make it for all the systems I think it’s just a bad mistake from day one. Not to mention unless they’re multiplayer is massively addicting and incredibly good, do they seriously think it’s going to sustain this huge population over even 5 years??? Let alone 10!! Who wants to bet a year or two into infinite, they will release a Battle Royale type add-on like call of duty did. I don’t know, I just think there’s a lot of people at 343I / Microsoft that either are really delusional or halo infinite is just so mind-blowingly amazing and we just don’t know it yet.
The more I hear and see with Halo infinite the more I’m less and less hyped about it unfortunately, And this comes from a fan that’s been here since the first month of Halo CE and has almost bought every single legendary edition of anything Halo. I’m still going to check out single player and multiplayer, but I’m just not getting good vibes here. I hope I’m wrong thought.

I’m definitely hanging on to my xbonex as long as possible and staying on the gamepass route , this has the gears 5 open world upgrade battlepass vibes written all over it . Add on the f2p mp model it doesn’t smell good at all. its not a console seller from my viewpoint but maybe 343 will turn it around . Time will tell but Iv set my expectations for a fully polished high quality AAA release very low .
The idea as I gather it is to make Infinite’s F2P multiplayer be a system seller that will last like at least as long as Overwatch and its like. I personally don’t think they’re truly capable of making a game that remains relevant for so long (no one can, really) but you can’t fault them for their ambition.
Regarding the campaign, I have two theories:
- Campaign DLC will be added periodically to further the Halo story anf be added into the Infinite package
- 343i want to move on to an original, brand new IP and put Halo on a break for a while (in terms of story/campaign, since the multiplayer is a long term thing).
Hopefully all will be revealed when 343i duscusses the multiplayer element
