I apologise in advance for the noob nature of these questions: I just bought Halo: Reach and the only multiplayer side of it I can compete against others is Team Slayer, all the other gametypes like capture the flag are under custom games which, to me at least, are not for open matchmaking.
As you can guess I’m new to online multiplayer, never had the internet for earler Halo games.
So what gives? Am I missing DLC or what. Surely they’d never restrict the game on launch to a single gametype.
Also I bought the Limited Edition and got something with it for my avatar, a falcon accessory or something but can’t find that after downloading it. In addition you get a unique skin for the Elites, but I only ever see Spartan v. Spartan combat - what is that about?
Please lads I know all this sounds a bit helpless but I need assistance
A lot of the SvE gametypes were taken out because of balancing issues, if you want to play using your Elite play Invasion, or vote for Elite slayer in multiteam.
And I’m having trouble understanding what you mean about Capture the Flag being under custom games and not being good for matchmaking . . . CTF, Hill, Territories are great for ‘open’ matchmaking. You’re going to have to explain that one . . . for me at least, does anyone else know what he’s talking about?
Sorry, I’ll try and clarify - when I go into matchmaking in the menus, it appears to me that the only gametype is slayer: that’s all I can see. When I go into custome games I see an impressive variety of gametypes but I can’t get into public lobbies with them, they appear to be only for playing with friends.
Well, don’t go into custom games you say, but ALL I see in matchmaking is that bloody Slayer. What was taken out due to balancing issues? If virtually everything is gone it sure dampens my enthusiasm for Halo

There are actually a lot more playlists available to Multiplayer Matchmaking. Have you tried restarting your console or removing and then putting your hard drive back in place? If none of those solutions work I’d clean your disk, and if that doesn’t work go and get your disk looked at by a gamestop or something. If they can’t do a thing about it try liking Team Slayer or getting a refund.
When you enter the matchmaking lobby it should say game type at the top of your selections . click on that . then there should be maybe 5 different options . The first is slayer . click on that and then it will show all of the different slayer game types . There is alot more listed on each selection , big team [ 8 vs 8 with vehicles ] team objective [ Flag related games ] Living dead humans aginst Zombies . It goes on and on . In custom Games you need to get people to join you to play . This consists of different custom maps and variables made in the forge . I reccomend spending some time in the forge there have been some pretty fun game types created there . Also send me a Friend Request and I will show you everything that I know . I probably won’t be on until tomorrow .

That’s really helpful, I’ll have another look at it and send you a request - this is really frustrating! And I was so hyped for it, planning on buying the limited edition Halo 4 too; not now I think!
Also try waiting like 10-30 seconds before entering playlists, sometimes it takes a few seconds to load all the playlists. If you jump in too early then it has a limited selection of playlists.
As for your avatar goodies you would have received a code, you need to redeem the code then edit your avatar and “equip or select” that avatar goodie for it to show up on your avatar, link with instructions
