Newbie question for Xbox Live and armor / shields

Hey everyone, I’m really new to Xbox Live (only a few days now), but been playing Halo for several years.

I noticed that when I select “Matchmaking”, a note comes up saying “You are missing recommended downloadable content. Would you like to visit the Xbox Live Marketplace to learn more?”. Then, at the Matchmaking menu, it says “Players do not have the recommended downladable content maps.”

Can anyone tell me what the recommended content is? Is this the secret to how most have such great resistance to direct gunfire?

Or, do I just need to keep at it and get better?

Thanks for your input and patience!!

Just do what it tells you to do and give it all your credit card details.

defiant and noble map packs are what you are missing… and the shields are same for all (i’m guessing you are a cod player and not familiar with shields that deflect an insane amount of bullets)

Maybe so. I feel dumb for asking this, but what do the maps give you?

Thanks!

The maps give you extra play spaces, and more achievements to earn.

 maps. Places to fight in.

Makes sense! Thanks everyone, I’ll give it a try!

What can you guys tell me about the “Armory”? Do those items apply during Multiplayer games or Campaign mode only?

Thanks again!

The armor is just for looks and only color does not carry over to xbox live.

you get: unearthed a firefight map, highlands a big team battle map, condemned a small slayer map in space, anchor 9 a map with corridors and long sights, breakpoint a map for invasion gametype, and tempest which is a big team or slayer map that is the same on both sides

The maps aren’t worth it, pre-order Anniversary and wait a few months.

^that is all a matter of opinion. I like tempest and highlands. its a shame they werent in the same pack though, so i only had to get 1…

Noble was worth every point, Breakpoint payed for itself time and time again. Defiant was worth it if you are a firefight junkie.

If he is new he will get bigger jackpots in the DLC playlist and level faster.

Sooooo… to summarize…

I think I understand what the maps give me (more areas that can pop up on the matchmaking battles). It sounds like some of the map packs can help me gain more points / credits faster tomove up in levels.

Armory selections don’t make a difference for Online play

So the BIG question… Do people have different levels of armor, or does everyone have the same armor? It sure seems like some have invincible armor where I have Toilet paper armor… haha

Thanks again for your patience!!

The armor doesnt effect anything whatsoever haha, just your persons appearence.
Cooler armor is unlocked at later ranks.

Armor only makes an aesthetic change, you unlock more armor depending on what rank you are.

The higher your rank, the more armor you can buy with your credits.

And don’t listen to the fool that says the map packs aren’t worth it. They are totally worth it! Imagine being able to fight in a zero g space. Each map pack contains a map where this is possible.

i was annoyed when they made ANOTHER space map though. That was slightly repetetive.

The Armory is only Aesthetic changes, like changing your color, your gender, or how you look. No mater what armor you have, the hitboxes are the exact same for everyone. A Female Body has the same Hitboxes as the Male Body.

The Map packs add extra maps for you to play on. My personal Favorites are inside of the Defiant Map Packs. The Map packs are optional though, Matchmaking was made to match you up with people who have the same map packs as you. All it does it allows you to play extra maps in Customs, Firefight, or Matchmaking. And it will speed up the time it takes to find a game in matchmaking because it doesnt have to search such a segmented group of people -Ex: If you have all the mappacks then you can be matched up with anyone.

Noble Map Pack
Defiant Map Pack

Well since maps have already been explained I’ll explain armour:

In Halo every player starts equal as far as damage resistance goes. No amount of playtime nor anything purchased in the armory will increase that.

I just want to say that it’s great to see a new player with questions get legitimate answers and not flamed like they would at other, ahem, less reputable Halo forums.

Anyway, welcome to Halo. If you want someone to play a few rounds with you and answer any questions as we go shoot me an invite or friend request. My gamertag is the same as my forum name. Also, there is a thread for players looking for other like-minded players, you couldn’t go wrong posting there either.
