New Weapons?

Ever since H3 there has been a decline of weapon count for the franchise, (I’m not counting the immense amounts of Req weapons in H5, they technically are the same weapon) But Halo: Reach introduced a lot of cool weapons that were later removed, such as the needle rifle, repeater, focus rifle, plasma launcher, and MA37 ICWS Assault rifle (although a variable of the standard assault rifle it still felt different and new) but the question is, will we see new weapons? Maybe we will see some returning ones? I know I would like to see some returning weapons in Halo Infinite like the Mauler or spiker. All those weapons were great additions! Me and my friends discussed this and we wondered what everyone else is the Halo community thought.

I’m sure we’ll see new weapons, but I hope we don’t get more redundancy. That’s the last thing we need. I do love certain weapons like the brute shot and want to see them return, they just need to make sure each weapon has utility or at the very least is fun to use.

Halo 4 introduced a load of new weapons -

  • Boltshot - Suppressor - Light rifle - Incineration canon - Scattershot - Storm rifle - Sticky detonator - Railgun - Binary rifle - SAW - Return of the BRHalo 5 introduced

  • Hydra - Plasma caster - Return of the SMGI’d probably want to see some of those swapped out rather than more weapons added to arsenal

Unpopular opinion;

We have more than enough weapons and we should instead focus on making the weapons we have varied and fun to use, not just focusing on whether or not they are viable for competitive play.

No way they’ll release a new Halo without any new weapons. As far as returning weapons I think it depends on which factions will be present in the game. For example if there’s no brutes I doubt we’ll get the mauler or spiker.

I’m sorry did you say carbine, plasma rifle, sentinel beam, and hydra ?

I know the hydra wasn’t in Halo yet, just saying lolBesides I’m pretty sure Reach removed a lot more weapons then it added. Mauler, beam rifle, plasma rifle, battle rifle, SMG, Carbine, spike grenades, fire grenades, etc. I’m pretty sure there’s more but I can’t think of them right now. Don’t get me wrong I love Reach but I don’t see how you can see it as adding weapons to the sandbox.

I actually agree with you on Halo having too many weapons. It’s one of the things I’m most scared of regarding Halo’s future. I’m sure 343 will be pressured to have more weapons than H5 but I have a hard time fathoming that.

With UI improvements, it could be done better than H5… but still. I’d rather they cut back and eased up on these things.

If they do add weapons from earlier games (which they most probably will), I hope that they re-texture some of them(or just all of them),as a lot of the old weapons in Halo 5 look old - obviously ignoring the weapons that are meant to look old(such as halo 2 rifle)

I’m not sure adding new weapons makes sense with the story line currently. New variants of existing weapons and possibly a weapon or two that is designed specifically to take out Promethians perhaps? But what will they remove to compensate?

They just need to remove ALL the req variants(vehicles included), and just go withthe standard weapons and vehicles, i mean not every power weapon needs a varia t with bigger clip size or faster rof…
Just keep standard weapons and replace all the req weapons with older weapons that they have removed(or replaced) for no reason, like the plasma caster instead of the plasma launcher(locking on plasma shooting thing from reach) and plasma rifle for storm rifle, and add back the brute shot, spiker, mauler, plasma rifle(standard), focus rifle, plasma repeater, needle rifle, concussion rifle etc.

Hannibal Forklift … BOOM already expanding onto halo 5.

Be cool to use the knight blade or the MA5K Carbine or something from the books/comics

I’ve written it countless times and I’ll do it again (I’ll be a broken record about this and classic movement until I see a change lol). The weapon sandbox needs to decrease from what it was in Halo 5.

As you add more weapons the games become much harder to balance (I believe Bungie discussed this when developing Halo 3 that they were already having problems). Increasing the number of weapons also potentially decreases the originality of them. It causes other problems with ease of access too: you have so many different weapons, which weapon does what? When is a good time to use it? What weapons counter it? Which only makes it harder for new players to come into the game by complicating the sandbox. Another ease of access related issue is weapon visibility. If I see a player’s weapon I need to be able to easily identify it before it fires. I can tell a shotgun apart from a BR, and can react accordingly (keeping my distance, etc.). With things such as the various variations that change the functionality of weapons and makes them better, it becomes hard to react to this. I see a guy holding a binary rifle, I know he has too shots until he has to reload. He fires twice, I think I’m clear so I move in to take him out, exposing myself. Surprise, he has Mind’s Eye and can fire two more shots.

Basically: big weapon sandboxes cause more problems, let’s keep it modest.

They have to have new weapons coming out but I’d love to see some old ones come back. Nothing to weird or op. I like it when it was simple.

I’m not sure about new weapons. I just want the Plasma Rifle added back in (to campaign, I know that they added it into multiplayer in an update for Halo 5)
The plasma rifle is just so iconic that I don’t understand why 343 industries removed it. O-o

I want a Promethean sword -Yoink!-.

The only way I see some of the Brutes’ weapons returning in Infinite is if the Banished are included in the game.

If they drop the whole “canon accurate multiplayer” system, then we could totally get brute weapons in the multiplayer sandbox even if brutes are not a main enemy in the game.

Multiplayer should be about fun and gameplay and competition, not about being “accurate to the lore.”

The least they could do is introduce some classic brute weapons as power weapons to be used in arena matches. The Halo 2 bruteshot would be a highly sought after power weapon on the battle field, and the Halo 3 Mauler could be used similar to how the Needler was in Halo 5: only one per map, and in the right hands can easily get 2 or 3 easy kills. Hell, they could even make a non-duel wielding spiker that’s actually worth picking up (unlike Halo 3’s). I imagine it would be a sort of precision machine gun, meaning it’s less effective at short range because of how precise it is, but being more effective at medium range.

Brute weapons were not the most high skill based weapons in the old Halo sandboxes, but they were definitely not hand-holding weapons like Halo 5 promethean weapons. Both the suppressor and bolt shot seek. Hitting shots with a light rifle is like shooting watermelons in a barrel. And the sniper. oh god, a sniper that only requires you to scan the enemy and not hit with a precise shot? lol

I once had some dude say that he reported me for spamming the suppressor on Team Doubles, which I kind of understood why he was so mad. Every time I saw him, all I had to do was make sure he was in my FOV and hold the trigger. lololol

Just fix what we got instead off adding more redundant elements to the sandbow.

Yes, can we please just replace the storm rifle with the plasma rifle. It’s design was lovely and iconic, and it had a much more unique profile that fir more with covenant weapons. I’ve never been a fan of the storm rifle since its introduction.

IMO an actual playable dagger would be cool. We’ve al seen the combat daggers Spartans use in assassinations, and the Sangheili also use a dagger variant of the energy sword. I think having those, maybe even a Knight blade too, would be cool.

Standard weapons for everyone. I want a balanced and fair MP. Not more REQ.

Include at least 2 new human/covenant/promethean weapons.
