Adding weapons across different games seems like a great idea.
I guess I find it arbitrary to pick and choose weapons to port into other titles. H3 and ODST make sense as they are all essentially Halo 3 assets, but I would find it incredibly odd to see the SAW or railgun in Halo 3. How fast would their projectiles move? Halo 3’s projectiles are the slowest in the series. Halo 4 and 2A I can see, but for the most part I can’t help but feel this is something perfectly suited for modders. Maybe mod support can come to Xbox one day, but I can live without customs only weapons.
Remember when I said I didn’t want the idea written off for no real reason? Your entire comment is “no real reason”.
Then let me rephrase, just because it’s possible isn’t reason enough alone to do it. There would be a number of issues that would be brought up with each weapon ported over. Hell you can already see issues with the ODST pistol animations in recon slayer. Are there really custom games that the other titles are missing out on with the lack of a handful of power weapons? I would rather see the development team focus more on bug fixes then introducing more bugs with sandbox fantasy requests. 343 is already keen on having modders run with the data tags from the cut content blogs, I can imagine this is a similar request that would fall under that umbrella.
Flood Firefight in HR would demand a bunch of new mechanics, assets, animations… Reach’s engine is a lot different from 3’s and ODST’s.
Halo 5 being added to MCC is impossible. MCC is at a technical limit because of all the engines in one package. Plus, it’s already on XONE, so go and play it. If you want it for PC, there’s nothing stopping them from making a standalone copy. The question is if it’ll be financially worth it, because they’re not porting something they don’t expect to do well (and with the current state of the franchise, it won’t).
True, but I’m just saying these are the things I’m more interested if 343 is doing additions to MCC.
Other than that, the game’s pretty well rounded in terms of content, as long as 343 continues to keep it running + we get more players trickling in.
Weapon balance shouldn’t be too bad depending on which weapons they add and how they implement them to fit what we know of the original sandbox.
For instance; something like the CE Beam Rifle would likely function exactly the same as its Halo 2 and 3 counterparts, since CE has nothing that matches its role. meanwhile something like the CE SMG might be tweaked to emulate the Halo 3 AR’s functionality, mainly due to how the future SMG’s were based off the CE AR to an extent, and nothing matches the later iterations of the AR.
I definitely don’t want to to see anymore updates to Halo 3 or Halo Reach until Custom Content is added to Halo 2 Classic. If you want new weapons go play Halo Infinite since that game is more for H3 and Reach fans more then a brand new game. ![]()
Well, if we don’t want to accidently alter the matchmaking sandbox to its own detriment, one thing that could be considered is making all of the cut weapons and weapons from Halo Games outside of MCC made available for Forge.
As an example, I would love to see all of Halo Online’s weapons brought into Halo 3, I think that for variety’s sake that it would be awesome. However, I get that a lot of those weapons were not designed to be part of Halo 3’s original multiplayer matchmaking, and so would possibly ruin the spirit of things.
So, put those weapons in Forge, and then any maps made in Halo 3 with the Halo Online weapons can be put into Custom Games. Or if 343 wants to be even more creative, they could create an entire playlist dedicated to Halo Online content as a weekly rotational playlist for Halo 3.
I dunno, my biggest disappointment with the ODST weapons in Halo 3 is how rare it is with matchmaking, and I don’t want to experience that further… But I also know that modifying original assets is controversial. As you said, there are still the Halo Online and Forge map variants, I can still encounter the ODST weapons at all and that’s better than nothing.
I’m mixed for the weapon variants: On one hand, I want the Halo Online weapons preserved, but on the other, the differences between them and their original variants aren’t drastic at all (as far as I know, they just have minor buffs, right?) and having to scroll through the already tedious menus for custom games and Forge is slow enough. Not to mention how people would complain about the Halo 4 aesthetic. They’d go far in the modding tools though.
it’s not too bad having them as rare as they can be, heck, the Sentinel beam in Halo 3 never spawned naturally in multiplayer until Edge was added (and it’s addition was to make up for changes between 3 and Online). there has always been some weapons left out of matchmaking for the purpose of balance, but their inclusion in the settings and forge still makes the games abundant custom modes and maps more engaging.
As far as modifying original assets is concerned, that might be easy to sidestep through some clever use of the Digsite work currently going on, as many of the Weapons and Vehicles introduced in later games originated from earlier games where they were fully modeled and prototyped, before being ultimately cut until they could have a more solid function attached to them later. meanwhile for Halo Online weapons, visually they could use an old popular method people used way back when Halo Online was out in the wild, which is the same function that the Legacy Visuals Toggle makes use of: all of them (excluding the DMR since it only has an H:O model) could use the default Halo 3 weapons with either different colored displays and lights, or with a colored stripe skin down the gun indicating the variant.
